{"id":257813,"date":"2025-07-12T02:47:14","date_gmt":"2025-07-12T02:47:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/257813\/"},"modified":"2025-07-12T02:47:14","modified_gmt":"2025-07-12T02:47:14","slug":"spain-3-1-italy-jul-11-2025-game-analysis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/257813\/","title":{"rendered":"Spain 3-1 Italy (Jul 11, 2025) Game Analysis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a data-clubhouse-guid=\"b40064c7-ecaa-338f-74a8-a3eb43071ec3\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=17640\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Spain<\/a> cruised to a 3-1 win over <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"078d3b00-503b-0a7b-50e9-a3b6fc661501\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=2792\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy<\/a> on Friday that sees both sides through to the knockout stages at the Women&#8217;s Euros, with the Spaniards topping Group B to set up a showdown with hosts <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"6d0fbee2-00e0-ed33-b5c7-32fd32a9418a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=17641\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Switzerland<\/a>, while the second-placed Italians will meet Group A winners <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"b6971873-a34b-d747-24f8-b6f76ebcac9a\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=2762\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Norway<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Spain finished top of the group with a perfect nine points from their three games, with the Italians second on four points, one head of already-eliminated <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"5e3e3e5d-b558-35d7-a2db-31a927200984\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=18736\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Belgium<\/a>, who beat <a data-clubhouse-guid=\"f1a6de89-2405-3d20-9670-e5136704a849\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/team?id=9531\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Portugal<\/a> 2-1 to snuff out their chances of advancing.<\/p>\n<p>The swashbuckling football of the Spaniards has singled them out as the team to beat in Switzerland but once more they got off to a sluggish start before saving the day with some outstanding attacking play.<\/p>\n<p>The Italians almost took the lead in the 10th minute when captain <a data-player-guid=\"4a7e47e7-33b2-0a90-79b1-29795b812385\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/255462\/elena-linari\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elena Linari<\/a> smacked a powerful header off the crossbar and seconds later they did score through <a data-player-guid=\"f5905ec4-4244-392d-b184-973c0aa0c07d\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/380833\/elisabetta-oliviero\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elisabetta Oliviero<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"\" data-mptype=\"image\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\"\/>Patri Guijarro helped Spain to a third win from three games in the group stage of Euro 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Florencia Tan Jun &#8211; UEFA\/UEFA via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Italy worked the ball in from the left flank and <a data-player-guid=\"37e20567-acb3-d306-b15e-3b160785daed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/260456\/martina-piemonte\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Martina Piemonte<\/a> found enough space to squeeze off a shot that Spain&#8217;s Mariona Caldente tried to control, but she only succeeded in teeing up Oliviero to slam home the ball.<\/p>\n<p>That jolted Spain into life and they levelled four minutes later as the reigning world and Nations League champions began to dominate possession, <a data-player-guid=\"637e6b5f-6841-399d-ac28-382e6e7a3bc4\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/320355\/athenea-del-castillo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Athenea del Castillo<\/a> working the ball in from the right before playing a brilliant one-two in a tight space with <a data-player-guid=\"2144667f-1168-ce75-7e69-96d814362a8e\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/219995\/alexia-putellas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexia Putellas<\/a> and firing into the net.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player-guid=\"0bdde134-9a9a-714d-19c6-ab6105edf103\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/264734\/patri-guijarro\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patri Guijarro<\/a> put Spain 2-1 up in the fourth minute of the second half and the Italians struggled to get out of their half for much of the rest of the game, with <a data-player-guid=\"95a20a2b-90e6-01c7-3c6d-6fc93f051549\" href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/soccer\/player\/_\/id\/259791\/esther-gonzalez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Esther Gonz\u00e1lez<\/a> sealing the deal for Spain with a stoppage-time goal to make it 3-1.<\/p>\n<p>Guijarro declared herself pleased with the business-like way Spain had secured the group win, even if there were things that could be improved.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m happy for the three victories. The match was difficult [but] we are first in the group and now let&#8217;s go for the quarterfinals,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They played very well.
