Singer, actress and TV personality Brenda Edwards talks about the changes to Loose Women, the soap she\u2019d love to star in and the office job she still has<\/p>\n

\"ITV\u2019sThe ITV changes will see the show slashed for 30 weeks a year<\/p>\n

Brenda Edwards<\/a> rose to fame after finishing fourth on The X Factor<\/a> in 2005. Since then she has forged a successful career as a theatre star and become a firm favourite on the Loose Women<\/a> panel, which she joined in 2019. The star has brought her trademark fun and humour to the chat show, previously confessing that she and Judi Love<\/a> are the\u201c wildest Loose Women\u201d.<\/p>\n

But it\u2019s all change soon, after ITV<\/a> announced that the show will be aired for just 30 weeks a year from January. Here, Brenda, 56, gives her surprisingly philosophical take on the news \u2013 and reveals the beloved soap she\u2019d adore a part in and why, when work is lean, she\u2019s quite happy to return to her temping job…<\/p>\n

Hi Brenda! Loose Women<\/strong> is so popular, it\u2019s hard to<\/strong> believe ITV is cutting its<\/strong> screen time next year\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

I think a lot of people were surprised, but it\u2019s a business and you\u2019ve got to run a business in the most efficient way possible. I don\u2019t have anything to do with the business side, I\u2019m just about giving my stories, opinions and views on things, so as long as I\u2019m allowed to do that, I\u2019m happy.<\/p>\n

Rumour has it they may stop<\/strong> filming with a live audience\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

They haven\u2019t confirmed it, but I would miss it. A live audience is great because it gives you some affirmation, it confirms the things that you\u2019re saying when With Brian May in We Will Rock You they clap. But we did without in lockdown, so… There might be a lot of fans at home who write in and ask for the audience back. So we\u2019ll see.<\/p>\n

Do you think it will still be successful with the changes?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I do. Because there is always a space for women \u2013 and men, because there are Loose Men as well. There is definitely a space for us to get our opinions out and help others. While there is somebody who needs helping or entertaining, there is always a space for Loose Women and Loose Men.<\/p>\n

The show will be missed<\/strong> when it\u2019s not on during the<\/strong> summer holidays…<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, it won\u2019t air during the summer holidays and when Ascot and the racing is on, but we will just be bigger and better when we do come back. You\u2019ve met so many celebrities on the show.<\/p>\n

Who is the one person you<\/strong> still hope to meet?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well, I would have loved to meet Whitney Houston, because she was my idol. I never got to do that, but I did get to see her in concert at Wembley.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your funniest<\/strong> celeb story so far?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I was playing the Killer Queen in the musical We Will Rock You in Manchester and Brian May came to play his guitar. He came from one side of the stage, Roger Taylor came from the back of the stage on the drums, and they collided. I tried to save Brian \u2013 I went to get his hand but he stopped me. He kept playing his guitar, because he\u2019s a rock star. In the words of Queen, The Show Must Go On.<\/p>\n

You previously said you\u2019d love<\/strong> to go on Strictly this year.<\/strong> Have they been in touch?<\/strong><\/p>\n

No, I haven\u2019t been asked yet. I have a few other exciting things lined up, but I can\u2019t say anything right now.<\/p>\n

What about soaps? Would<\/strong> you ever consider a part<\/strong> on EastEnders?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oh, I\u2019d love it! If they came calling, of course I would. I\u2019m a major fan and I\u2019ve been watching it since it started. I love EastEnders<\/a> \u2013 there is always a story there.<\/p>\n

You could play Denise\u2019s<\/strong> cousin on the show\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

I could. Let\u2019s manifest it! I could be Denise\u2019s long-lost cousin, and it actually turns out that I had the child, not Denise.<\/p>\n

The X Factor changed the<\/strong> course of your life. Did y<\/strong>ou<\/strong> ever imagine you\u2019d leave your<\/strong> old job in accounts and do<\/strong> what you\u2019re doing now?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I still go back to working in accounts when the jobs aren\u2019t coming in. If I haven\u2019t got any work on, I go back to temping. I\u2019ve got a mortgage to pay. I\u2019m not shy. Work is work and money is money. I\u2019ve got to make my money even if I\u2019m not doing anything on stage or on TV.<\/p>\n

When was the last time<\/strong> you temped, then?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just coming out of lockdown. I temped at Twickenham rugby ground and I worked in accounts payable. I\u2019ve got my certificates, so I know how to do it. It\u2019s like riding a bike \u2013 you never forget. I\u2019m not afraid of hard work. Bring it on!<\/p>\n
