An iconic rock band has sacked their drummer 4<\/p>\n Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend have reportedly had a fall out with Zak StarkeyCredit: 2019 Samir Hussein 4<\/p>\n Zak Starkey has been axed from The Who – he has been playing with the band since 1996Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd 4<\/p>\n Zak joined the band for their Quadrophenia TourCredit: Reuters<\/p>\n A spokesperson for The Who revealed that Roger Daltrey<\/a> and Pete Townshend<\/a> sacked long-time drummer Zak Starkey<\/a> after shows in London<\/a>.<\/p>\n They said: \u201cThe band made a collective decision to part ways with Zak after this round of shows at the Royal Albert Hall<\/a>.<\/p>\n “They have nothing but admiration for him and wish him the very best for his future.”<\/p>\n According to sources, Roger and Pete<\/a>‘s decision has “upset” Zak, who is the son of legendary Beatles<\/a> drummer Ringo Starr<\/a>.<\/p>\n An insider told The Mirror<\/a>: \u201cIt\u2019s a little acrimonious to say the least.\u201d<\/p>\n The fallout is believed to have occurred during two recent Royal Albert Hall performances.<\/p>\n Sources claim there were some questions raised over Zak\u2019s drumming at the March shows, which were in honour of Daltrey\u2019s Teenage Cancer Trust charity<\/a>.<\/p>\n While fans seemed to be thrilled with the band’s shows at the iconic venue, insiders claim there were a \u201cfew issues with the drumming….and the standard wasn\u2019t as high as everyone wanted\u201d.<\/p>\n However, another source told the outlet that it’s a blow to the band to see Zak go.<\/p>\n They said: \u201cHe is an extremely talented drummer and it doesn\u2019t make any sense.”<\/p>\n The Who rocker Roger Daltrey performs at his Las Vegas residency<\/p>\n Zak joined The Who – whose original drummer was the late Keith Moon – in 1996 on their Quadrophenia Tour.<\/p>\n He is also known for playing with Oasis<\/a>, and was previously tipped to join them on their reunion tour.<\/p>\n However, in January it was revealed Zak fell ill with a blood clot<\/a>, hours before taking to the stage with Brit supergroup Mantra Of The Cosmos.<\/p>\n ROGER’S ILL HEALTH<\/p>\n During the Royal Albert Hall concerts in March, Roger opened up about his ill health<\/a>.<\/p>\n Standing on stage in his trademark purple-tinted glasses, he said: \u201cThe joys of getting old mean you go deaf<\/a>, I also now have got the joy of going blind.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cFortunately I still have my voice, because then I\u2019ll have a full Tommy.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Tommy is the name of the band\u2019s iconic 1969 rock opera album, which follows the story of Tommy Walker, an army soldier who later becomes deaf, dumb and blind.<\/p>\n Bandmate\u00a0Pete also joked he was \u201cSuperman\u201d now after getting his knee replaced, and told the audience: \u201cMaybe I should auction off the old one. <\/p>\n![\"Roger](\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/editorial-use-roger-daltrey-zak-927468304.jpg\")
