A mum who moved to Birmingham from the USA said one thing about using the NHS<\/a> for the first time ‘took her breath away’.<\/p>\n

Molly – who goes by @strangecapers on TikTok – said she’d only been in the city for a few months when she woke up feeling unwell.<\/p>\n

The mum, who moved from Texas with young family, told her followers: “Recently I got an ear infection.<\/p>\n

“I thought ‘s**t, I gotta figure out the NHS’. I’m expecting to have to pay $150 (\u00a3111) at least to be seen by a doctor.”<\/p>\n

However she was stunned to see how it all panned out, the Mirror <\/a>reports.<\/p>\n

Molly said: “I called at eight, someone called me back at 10 and over the phone they said ‘yeah it sounds like you have an ear infection’ and for \u00a310, I had medicine in my hand at 11.30am.<\/p>\n

“I know the system’s not perfect but, as an American, this really took my breath away.”<\/p>\n

In the caption, she explained that it “would’ve cost like $300 (\u00a3222) in the States” to have the health issue taken care of.<\/p>\n

“The NHS isn’t perfect but we are so blessed to have it,” one Brit said in the comments section.<\/p>\n

Another wrote: “We’re very lucky to have an NHS, people don’t appreciate it enough.”<\/p>\n

“During the pandemic I had a stroke,” another follower said. “NHS ambulance and hospital admission, CT Scan and given ongoing medication all within five hours. Nothing to pay.”<\/p>\n
