\u201cJeremy Corbyn has been approached by many different people who don\u2019t see themselves in the current Labour Party. \u201cThere\u2019s now an appetite and demand for \u2018true\u2019 Labour.\u201d <\/p>\n
Last year, Mr Mohamed, former Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn and three other MPs\u00a0made up the \u2018Independent Alliance.\u2019 They also include Ayoub Khan for Birmingham Perry Barr, Adnan Hussain of Blackburn, and Shockat Adam of Leicester South. <\/p>\n
\u201cA party is needed.\u201d Mr Mohamed says. <\/p>\n
\u201cLabour has had 12 months. Whatever is formed has to be selfless, representative, inclusive and honest.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m hopeful that I can be part of something that is genuine grassroots, people-first. Peace and justice-focused. \u201cWe don\u2019t have a name, we don\u2019t have a timeline. We have to do it right.\u201d <\/p>\n
Last week, Mr Corbyn said discussions about a new party were \u201congoing\u201d and posted to his X account that \u201creal change is coming.\u201d <\/p>\n
Suspended Labour MP Zarah Sultana also said she\u2019d be setting up a new party with him. <\/p>\n
Asked if any sitting Labour MPs had approached them to join a new party, Mr Mohamed said, \u201cIf they feel they can influence government from the inside, I respect that. <\/p>\n
But if they\u2019d tried every other way and it\u2019s not worked, and joining a new party that stands up for true Labour values is a better way of serving the country, I\u2019m sure we\u2019d be happy to welcome people.\u201d <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"12 July 2025, 06:00 | Updated: 12 July 2025, 11:19 Iqbal Mohamed.
