Netflix<\/a>‘s Virgin River<\/a> has received a big update, and set a new record in the process.<\/p>\n

The beloved comfort show has been renewed for an eighth season<\/a>, once again consisting of 10 episodes (as reported by Deadline<\/a>).<\/p>\n

That makes it the streaming service<\/a>‘s longest-running live-action scripted series.<\/p>\n

Sexy Spanish teen drama \u00c9lite<\/a> also has eight seasons, but only has 64 episodes across them compared to Virgin River’s 84.<\/p>\n

Grace and Frankie<\/a> and Orange is the New Black<\/a> both have more episodes, at 94 and 91, respectively, but those were only across seven seasons (and Grace and Frankie’s are only half-hour each).<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of myself and the whole Virgin River family, we\u2019re eternally grateful to Netflix and to the fans for allowing us to continue on this journey with these beloved characters,\u201d showrunner Patrick Sean Smith said in a statement.<\/p>\n

This renewal comes just after season 7 wrapped up filming. For the first time in the show’s history, production took place outside of Vancouver, as the cast and crew headed down to Mexico for a brief time.<\/p>\n

The upcoming season doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s expected to drop around Christmas time or early next year.<\/p>\n

Just before season 7 started filming, Lauren Hammersley, who plays Charmaine Roberts, spoke about her character’s shocking season 6 finale cliffhanger<\/a> and wondered whether it was the end for her.<\/p>\n

She said that she messaged Patrick Sean Smith and said: “Am I dead? It\u2019s okay if I\u2019m dead, I just need to know if I should start putting resum\u00e9s out at Wendy’s or something.<\/p>\n

“So\u2026 IF Charmaine dies this year, could you please drown her in the river? I think that would be EPIC.”<\/p>\n

Fans will have to wait and see whether Charmaine has survived, but regardless of that, the show as a whole still has plenty of life left in it.<\/p>\n

Virgin River seasons 1-6 are available to stream on Netflix now.<\/strong><\/p>\n
