Brendan Rodgers watched his Celtic side play their third pre-season friendly on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Hoops fielded two entirely different teams in each half as they lost 3-2 to Portuguese top-flight outfit Estrela da Amadora<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rodgers blamed legginess on the defeat<\/a>, but stressed he was really pleased with the exercise and the effort his squad put in at the Benfica Campus.<\/p>\n

Celtic have signed six players<\/a> so far this summer, and recently sold Nicolas Kuhn to Serie A side Como<\/a> for a transfer fee of \u00a316.5m plus add-ons.<\/p>\n

So where exactly does Rodgers<\/a> want to strengthen between now and the end of the window? He was asked in Lisbon after the Estrela match.<\/p>\n

Rodgers told the Daily Record<\/a> that plenty of work is going on back in Glasgow to find new players and improve the squad.<\/p>\n

The Celtic manager<\/a> made it clear that due to the sales of both Kyogo and Kuhn, he wants to bolster his winger and striker options.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cI think there\u2019s work going on behind the scenes. It\u2019s clear we need to improve the squad. A lot of work is going on behind the scenes, there are loads of names floating about.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think the positions you\u2019ve mentioned, we\u2019re clear that we need to improve our frontline. We lost\u00a0Kyogo\u00a0in January and another player with Nicolas gone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a lot of goals that\u2019s gone out of the team. So for us, we need to strengthen that area of the field. But the guys back home are working hard on that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rodgers on left-back position and Hayato Inamura<\/p>\n

Celtic re-signed Kieran Tierney on a free transfer, but Greg Taylor decided not to sign a new contract and is now representing PAOK in Greece.<\/p>\n

Hayato Inamura appeared to be signed as a centre-back, but pleasantly surprised Rodgers at left-back against Cork City<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Inamura played the position again versus Estrela, but Rodgers is not ruling out the possibility of signing a new left-back amid speculation surrounding Flavio Nazinho<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThe pre-season is always to assess. We know the model here at the club is always to improve them.<\/p>\n

\u201cSometimes that means they come in and you assess and look, and look to see what\u2019s right for the development of them and the team.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what I\u2019m about, getting a collection of individual players that I can see development and improvement in.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they are going to be close to the first-team, they\u2019ll stay and do that. If not, we may feel they need to go out. Ina\u2019s that example. I just wanted to get the chance to see him and we\u2019ll continue to do that.<\/p>\n
