Even though color and storage are all that’s changed, you can trade in your old Galaxy Watch Ultra and still lose money.

Generally speaking, Samsung’s boosted trade-in values are a good deal. They let you upgrade to the next generation of device for a big percentage off your purchase. That’s generally, and sometimes the rule doesn’t apply.

Right now, on Samsung’s website, the new Galaxy Watch Ultra in Titanium Blue is being offered for $649. That’s the same price that Samsung launched the Galaxy Watch Ultra last year at, and literally nothing but color and storage has changed since then. The new model now has 64GB of storage for locally saved maps, music, and other data.

If you’re looking to upgrade from last year’s model, you might only want to do so to change the color. If you do that, you’ll still need to shell out $400 to get the new color.

Advertisement – scroll for more content

At best, Samsung will let you trade your Galaxy Watch Ultra for a brand-new Galaxy Watch Ultra. The trade-in value assigned by Samsung sits at $250. That’s not much for the device; you probably paid a lot more for it just a year ago. That brings the total cost of a similar-but-different watch down to $400.

That’s better than $649, but seemingly not worth it just to get a different color and more space for watch downloads.

The amusing bit about this is the idea that Samsung will let you trade your watch for a new one of the same model, almost. They normally allow that for varying models, like a base model for a Pro or Classic edition. This, on the other hand, is a new one.

More on Samsung:

FTC: We use income earning auto affiliate links. More.

Right now, during Samsung’s boosted trade-in deals, the company is offering a brand-new Galaxy Watch Ultra model.
