{"id":260912,"date":"2025-07-13T06:40:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-13T06:40:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/260912\/"},"modified":"2025-07-13T06:40:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-13T06:40:11","slug":"spacex-launches-mystery-satellite-to-geostationary-transfer-orbit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/260912\/","title":{"rendered":"SpaceX launches mystery satellite to geostationary transfer orbit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SpaceX launched a mystery satellite to geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) from Florida&#8217;s Space Coast early Sunday morning (July 13).<\/p>\n<p>A <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18962-spacex-falcon-9.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18962-spacex-falcon-9.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Falcon 9<\/a> rocket lifted off from <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33926-cape-canaveral.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/33926-cape-canaveral.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cape Canaveral Space Force Station<\/a> Sunday at 1:04 a.m. EDT (0504 GMT), on a mission <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/18853-spacex.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SpaceX<\/a> called Commercial GTO-1.<\/p>\n<p>The company didn&#8217;t identify the payload, though it&#8217;s believed to be an Israeli communications satellite called Dror-1 .<\/p>\n<p>You may like<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dror-1 is a geostationary communication satellite built and developed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI),&#8221; <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/nextspaceflight.com\/launches\/details\/7897\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/nextspaceflight.com\/launches\/details\/7897\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"noopener\">NextSpaceflight.com wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is intended to meet the <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/24839-satellites.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">satellite<\/a> communication needs of Israel for the next 15 years,&#8221; the outlet added. &#8220;Dror-1 is comprised primarily of local Israeli technologies developed at IAI, including an advanced digital communication payload and &#8216;smartphone in space&#8217; capabilities, to provide communication agility throughout the satellite\u2019s lifetime in space.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/29222-geosynchronous-orbit.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/29222-geosynchronous-orbit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Geostationary orbit<\/a> lies 22,236 miles (35,786 kilometers) above Earth. (Image credit: SpaceX)<\/p>\n<p>The Falcon 9&#8217;s first stage, designated B1083, came back to <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/54-earth-history-composition-and-atmosphere.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Earth<\/a> as planned on Sunday. It touched down about 8.5 minutes after liftoff on the SpaceX drone ship &#8220;Just Read the Instructions,&#8221; which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.<\/p>\n<p class=\"newsletter-form__strapline\">Breaking space news, the latest updates on rocket launches, skywatching events and more!<\/p>\n<p>It was the 13th launch and landing for this particular booster, according to a <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/launches\/mission\/?missionId=commercial-gto-1\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.spacex.com\/launches\/mission\/?missionId=commercial-gto-1\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" rel=\"noopener\">SpaceX mission description<\/a>.
