That&#8217;s significantly higher than the national average stress score of <strong>44.85<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Stress can come from many sources: work, traffic, friends, money, children and more. But chronic stress can be detrimental to health, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/topics\/stress\/health#:~:text=This%20can%20put%20you%20at,and%20memory%20and%20concentration%20impairment.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">American Psychological Association<\/a>, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa.org\/news\/press\/releases\/stress\/2023\/collective-trauma-recovery#:~:text=Psychological%20impacts%20of%20pandemic%2Dera,age%20groups%20except%20those%2065+.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">women and young people<\/a> experiencing the most stress.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Continued stress can cause <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/healthy-lifestyle\/stress-management\/in-depth\/stress-symptoms\/art-20050987\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wear and tear on the body<\/a> including anxiety, muscle tension, headaches, heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, sleep problems and much more.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAADCAQAAAAe\/WZNAAAAEElEQVR42mM8U88ABowYDABAxQPltt5zqAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==\" alt=\"071325 Stress in the US map\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full white\" width=\"1400\" height=\"1232\" data- data-\/><\/p>\n<p>The most stressed states include, in descending order:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New Mexico with a stress score of <strong>60.52<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>Nevada with a stress score of <strong>59.9<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>Louisiana with a stress score of <strong>56.21<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>West Virginia with a stress score of <strong>55.28<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>and Mississippi with a stress score of <strong>54.66<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The least stressed states include, in ascending order:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Nebraska with a stress score of <strong>31.83<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>Minnesota with a stress score of <strong>32.32<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>New Hampshire with a stress score of <strong>32.49<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>South Dakota with a stress score of <strong>32.66<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<li>and Iowa with a stress score of <strong>35.69<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wallethub.com\/edu\/most-stressful-states\/32218\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WalletHub<\/a>, an online tool to compare financial products, determined each state&#8217;s &#8220;stress score&#8221; by combining 40 different data points in four different categories: money-related stress, family-related stress, health and safety-related stress and work-related stress.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Data used included average hours worked per week, job security, credit scores, cost of child care, divorce rates, mental health rates, physical activity rates, insufficient sleep rates and more.
