{"id":261363,"date":"2025-07-13T10:40:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-13T10:40:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/261363\/"},"modified":"2025-07-13T10:40:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-13T10:40:09","slug":"orange-order-parade-held-at-north-belfast-interface","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/261363\/","title":{"rendered":"Orange Order parade held at north Belfast interface"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">An Orange Order parade at an interface in north Belfast has passed off without incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Some members and one band marched past the Ardoyne shops on Sunday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The area has been a flashpoint for parading tensions which have led to violent confrontations in previous years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The Parades Commission had granted permission for the march to go ahead but with some restrictions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">It assembled at Woodvale Parade at about 08:30 BST before moving along Woodvale Road and Crumlin Road towards Ligoniel Orange Hall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Organisers had said the march represented the &#8220;homeward&#8221; part of their Twelfth of July parade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The commission barred evening return parades from passing the Ardoyne shops on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">It permitted the Sunday plans, but with conditions such as only hymn music being played past the shops and no accompanying supporters on that part of the route.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The commission said it had received some objections to the morning parade which warned it would &#8220;harm community relations&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">A few people observed the march but there were no formal protests organised.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">There was a policing presence in the area as the parade took place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Fr Gary Donegan, who observed the march, said there had been a &#8220;certain anxiousness&#8221; in the area.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">But he added: &#8220;It seems actually what the community has done is ignore it and if it passes by then we can just get on to Sunday.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">Encouraging dialogue on parading disputes, he added: &#8220;The more people talk, the less likelihood there&#8217;s going to be adverse responses.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">The area of the Crumlin Road is an interface between mainly unionist and nationalist communities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">In the past it was one of Northern Ireland&#8217;s most contentious parading routes, with years of protests, violence and disorder.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\"><a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-northern-ireland-37458065\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">A deal was stuck in 2016<\/a> which sees a number of morning parades held each year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"sc-9a00e533-0 hxuGS\">But the agreement <a target=\"_self\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cp66xg9n137o\" class=\"sc-f9178328-0 bGFWdi\" rel=\"noopener\">broke down in 2024<\/a>, raising concerns of further tensions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An Orange Order parade at an interface in north Belfast has passed off without incident.
