A fire tore through a warehouse at a Birmingham business near the M6.<\/p>\n

The blaze broke out at the Chambers & Cook Freight Ltd building in Perrywell Road, Witton, early today, Sunday, July 13.<\/p>\n

West Midlands Fire Service sent six crews to the scene shortly after 4.30am.<\/p>\n

The fire had taken hold in the roof of the warehouse, said Jamie Stephenson, operations director at Chambers & Cook Freight.<\/p>\n

He told BirminghamLive: “At 4.30am on Sunday the fire alarm was activated. Our on-site security guard saw where it was from and called West Midlands Fire Service.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy 6.10am it was just a clear-up operation.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe warehouse was pretty empty at the time thankfully.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr Stephenson continued: \u201cThe investigator thinks it may have been ignited by the hot weather over the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cPotentially, a light fitting may have exploded. The fire came from the roof down.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe loss of stock has been minimal. The warehouse may have to be taken down and rebuilt.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we have been very lucky. The fire didn\u2019t spread into other buildings and there were two \u00a3120,000 cabs next to the building and they seem to be OK but are being checked.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, there\u2019s damage. Yes, there\u2019s disruption. But no-one has been hurt and that\u2019s the most important thing.\u201d<\/p>\n

A fire service cordon is in place by the Chambers & Cook Freight Ltd building in Perrywell Road, Witton where a fire took hold in the early morning<\/p>\n

A spokeswoman for the service said: \u201cWe were called to a factory fire and got the first call at 4.35am.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe sent six crews from Perry Barr<\/a>, Aston<\/a>. Erdington<\/a> and Ward End<\/a> to the incident.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur firefighters, with eight wearing breathing apparatus used five hose reel jets to tackle the fire.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe fire affected the whole of the building.<\/p>\n
