Kim Carnes has reacted to JoJo Siwa<\/a>\u2018s cover of \u2018Bette Davis Eyes\u2019.<\/p>\n

Siwa released her version of the hit on Friday (July 11), after covering it at multiple live shows this year.<\/p>\n

Now, Carnes \u2013 who popularised the song with her 1981 version \u2013 has weighed in on Siwa\u2019s take.<\/p>\n

Sharing a clip of the original music video earlier this week, in a since-deleted TikTok, Carnes seemed to dismiss the cover, writing: \u201cThere is a difference between singing a song\u2026. And embodying it\u2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

She went on to add: I\u2019ve always believed authenticity is what makes music timeless. I\u2019m forever grateful to be the voice behind this one. \u2026 Bette Davis Eyes.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting that Carnes\u2019 version was also a cover, with Jackie DeShannon and Donna Weiss writing the song in 1974.<\/p>\n

Her 1981 release spent nine non-consecutive weeks at the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and won the 1982 Grammy<\/a> Awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.<\/p>\n

The classic hit has seen a resurgence among Gen-Z fans lately, with Ethel Cain covering the track during recent live shows, and even calling her recent single \u2018Fuck Me Eyes\u2019 an \u201chomage\u201d to the song<\/a>, which she said is \u201cone of my favorite pop songs of all time\u201d.<\/p>\n

In other Siwa news, in March, she came under controversy for charging fans $900 (\u00a3696) to \u201chelp\u201d her set up the show for her North American tour<\/a> via a VIP ticket package.<\/p>\n

Siwa explained: \u201cYou are actually going to get to come during while we\u2019re loading in the show, and you\u2019re gonna get to kind of help us set it up and make sure things are right and test out the drum with me or the DJ booth with me.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the artist has faced some criticism for asking fans to \u201cbasically pay to work\u201d at the concerts (via\u00a0The Independent<\/a>). Another person wrote: \u201cIf I\u2019m helping you set up then I should be getting in for free Lmaoo!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

Last September,\u00a0the Polish\u00a0Eurovision committee denied Siwa\u2019s claims that she was \u201cin talks\u201d to represent the country at the 2025 song contest<\/a> \u2013 which took place in Basel, Switzerland this May.<\/p>\n
