Aston Villa chief Monchi has embarked on a desperate mission to save his boyhood club San Fernando CD from the threat of extinction.<\/p>\n
The club were relegated to Third Division RFEF last season and their owners do not want to sell their stake in the club and is claimed to be considering liquidation.<\/p>\n
That has sparked major demonstrations in a bid to change their mind and among those who were joining was Monchi who is trying to save the club.<\/p>\n
He flew out to San Fernando to make his feelings clear amid a passion ovation and told journalists that they have a back-up plan should the unthinkable happen.<\/p>\n
Patricia Cavada, the town’s mayor, does not want to contemplate that scenario and is hoping to convince MTM investments to change their mind about selling the club.<\/p>\n
Both Monchi and the mayor urged the group to sell up, as there were investors willing to buy it, but so far, it has fallen on deaf ears.<\/p>\n
In a heartfelt letter to the fans, Monchi said: “I\u2019ve been in professional football for 37 years, since I left as a young lad from my hometown team, back then CD San Fernando. I\u2019ve been fortunate to experience wonderful and unrepeatable moments with my Sevilla FC, above all, winning the unimaginable. I also enjoyed them with Roma, and now I\u2019m living and savouring them with Aston Villa.<\/a><\/p>\n “What I experienced today in my city, San Fernando, La Isla de Le\u00f3n, without being any title or European qualification, I place in a privileged spot among my memories.<\/p>\n “Today, a city has shown that football is a feeling so deep that it surpasses many barriers. Today, a city without the spotlight of mega-professional football, but through love and identification with its colors, has reclaimed the value and pride of grassroots football.<\/p>\n “Now I have a bittersweet feeling, and I write this with contained emotion but proud to share with my fellow townspeople the same blue sentiment. That said, I pose questions and doubts that have been swirling in my mind these past two months, but which today, after what I\u2019ve experienced, grow even stronger. Is it fair that a city, a fanbase, a feeling, a set of colors could lose their reason for being and their existence due to the despicable whim of an investment group that uses this sentiment as a broken toy?<\/p>\n “Shouldn\u2019t @RFAF<\/a> and @rfef<\/a> protect their affiliated clubs and their fans? Are you really going to let @SanFernando_CD<\/a> die?The @RAEinforma<\/a> says that justice is a value that inclines one to act and judge, guided by truth and giving each what they deserve. @rfef<\/a> and @RFAF<\/a> apply justice and give @SanFernando_CD<\/a> and San Fernando what they deserve: continuity as an entity, as a feeling, and as a football club.
