Long journeys with young children are the stuff of nightmares so, on our drive back from mid-Wales the other day, my friend and I knew a stop mid-way would be needed.<\/p>\n

Having done all the windy roads, Monmouthshire felt like a good place to find somewhere so going to Raglan Farm Park – where I think I may have been years ago in my pre-mothering life to cover an event in my first journalism job – was a no-brainer.<\/p>\n

The huge farm is the ideal place to go with young children on a sunny day, like on the day we visited, but would also be a great place to go on a rainy day as there are so many different soft play areas indoors.<\/p>\n

We started our visit by having lunch – a burger and some chicken nuggets with chips – for about \u00a315, which felt reasonable and better quality than usual for this kind of place. However, my two-and-a-half quickly lost interest in his food when he spotted the soft play area.<\/p>\n

To be honest, I was quite happy to let him roam around if this meant I could have my lunch (and coffee) in much needed peace after the drive. We spent quite a lot of time indoors, exploring the sand pit, soft play areas and inflatables.<\/p>\n

My son also loved feeding carrots to the donkeys, and I think it would be fair to see this was probably one of his highlights.<\/p>\n

We then headed outside, and Raglan Farm Park certainly is a big site. There are playground areas, zip wires, little pedal tractors and more animals.<\/p>\n

There was also the option to pay for a tractor ride, but we didn’t get round to doing that as our trip had an unexpected ending.<\/p>\n

As we were enjoying some ice-creams outside, my son got stung by a wasp which, understandably, upset him terribly. To my relief, he didn’t have an allergic reaction to it but, being inconsolable, we decided this meant it was time for us to go.<\/p>\n

You could easily spend a whole afternoon at Raglan Farm Park, especially on a warm sunny day. You could just sit down, feel the sun on your face and watch the kids play around – what else do you need?<\/p>\n

The farm park also has a big toy shop upon exit, be warned. I couldn’t help myself and bought my son a little tractor which did help to distract from the wasp stinging incident for a few minutes – until he went back to pointing at it and crying, bless him.<\/p>\n
