Those fortunate enough to be travelling to an EU destination this month may be considering bringing back some local delicacies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Visitors to France might find themselves drawn to the country&#8217;s numerous cheese shops, or perhaps planning to bring home some beloved cured meat from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/spain\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Spain<\/a>. However, such actions could now lead to trouble.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The warning comes as the official GOV.UK account posted on X (formerly <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/twitter\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>) about significant changes to personal imports. &#8220;You can no longer bring meat or dairy products from <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/european-union\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">EU<\/a> or EEA countries into Great Britain for personal use,&#8221; it stated.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;If you&#8217;re travelling over Easter weekend, check what you can and can&#8217;t bring back before you go.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/1_Tenerife-Places-To-Visit.jpg\" alt=\"Passengers at the Airport Reina Sofia in Tenerife\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Easter holidaymakers cannot bring back popular food items(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The government has introduced these measures to &#8216;protect farmers from the spread of foot and mouth disease&#8217;, despite there being no current cases in the UK. The list of prohibited foods includes:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Beef<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Pork<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Lamb<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Mutton<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Venison<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Goat meat<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Cheese<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Butter<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Yoghurt<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The government website also notes restrictions on bringing fruit, vegetables, nuts, and seeds into Great Britain from overseas. It stated: &#8220;If you&#8217;re bringing in any food or animal products protected by the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), you may need to apply for a CITES permit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">When jetting off on holiday to sun-kissed Spain, or soaking up history in France or Italy, you can still bring back some local specialties for friends and family. These treats include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Bread, but not sandwiches filled with meat or dairy products<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Cakes without fresh cream<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Biscuits<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Chocolate and confectionery, but not those made with a lot of unprocessed dairy ingredients<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Pasta and noodles, but not if mixed or filled with meat or meat products<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Packaged soup, stocks and flavourings<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Processed and packaged plant products, such as packaged salads and frozen plant material<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 ENBBt\">Food supplements containing small amounts of an animal product, such as fish oil capsules<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Social media users were less than impressed with the ban, expressing frustration at the news. One displeased commentator griped: &#8220;Isn&#8217;t this quite massive? No more bringing back cheese from France?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Other users chimed in, with one stating: &#8220;I don&#8217;t have any plans to travel to <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk\/all-about\/european-union\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">the EU<\/a> currently &#8211; but this still upsets me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The sentiment was echoed by a third individual, who lamented: &#8220;WE CAN&#8217;T BRING CHEESE BACK FROM FRANCE?&#8221; Another poster wryly commented, &#8220;Taste (or rather don&#8217;t) all that freedom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you declare banned food products to Border Force officers at customs, they\u2019ll take them away and destroy them &#8211; but if you fail to declare the prohibited items, you could be prosecuted.
