{"id":264667,"date":"2025-07-14T16:29:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T16:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/264667\/"},"modified":"2025-07-14T16:29:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-14T16:29:10","slug":"national-gallery-200th-anniversary-to-be-celebrated-in-trafalgar-square","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/264667\/","title":{"rendered":"National Gallery 200th anniversary to be celebrated in Trafalgar Square"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swlondoner.co.uk\/entertainment\/31052024-national-gallery-welcomes-20th-female-artist-into-main-collection\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The National Gallery<\/a> has announced the final plans for its 200-year anniversary celebrations, set to culminate at Trafalgar Square this month.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rounding off the two-year, UK-wide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.org.uk\/about-us\/ng200-programme\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Triumph of Art festivities<\/a> in the Gallery\u2019s honour, the event scheduled for 26 July will feature a parade up Whitehall followed by performances art, workshops and music.<\/p>\n<p>Turner prize-winning artist Jeremy Deller, who has been commissioned to lead festivities, said he was relishing the unique opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>Deller said: \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to working with partners across all four nations to create something epic to mark the Gallery\u2019s 200 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1824 with the express intention to be open to the public, The National Gallery claims to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgallery.org.uk\/about-us\/our-history\/200-years-of-the-national-gallery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">unique<\/a> among other major European museums which generally grew out of royal art collections.<\/p>\n<p>Since moving from Pall Mall to its current site at Trafalgar Square, the gallery has established itself as one of the world\u2019s most iconic art museums, welcoming over three million visitors in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The permanent collection features work by renowned British artists, such as JMW Turner and William Hogarth, as well as celebrated pieces by international painters such as Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/t-of-art-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-156453\"  \/>Jeremy Deller in Trafalgar Square.
