A woman who died after falling at a waterfall beauty spot<\/a> has been named locally as Betty Molloy.<\/p>\n Emergency services<\/a> were called to Campsie Glen in East Dunbartonshire, north of Glasgow, at around 12.35pm on Saturday, July 12.<\/p>\n The 63-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n The Record understands she fell 35ft after she “lost her footing”.<\/p>\n The incident unfolded on Scotland’s hottest day of the year as people flocked to beauty spots across the country to enjoy the weather<\/a>.<\/p>\n Pictures from the scene on Saturday showed the area swarming with police vehicles, ambulances and fire engines<\/a>, with responders seen gathering in the car park of the beauty spot. The area was cordoned off by police officers.<\/p>\n Tributes have been paid to Betty in the wake of the tragedy.<\/p>\n Eileen Dolan said: “Thoughts and prayers to Betty’s family. This is an absolute tragedy. RIP Betty.”<\/p>\n Mary Young added: “RIP Betty, you were such a lovely lady, thinking of all your family and friends.”<\/p>\n Pearl O’Donnell said: “RIP Betty, thoughts with the family. This is an absolute tragedy.”<\/p>\n Police Scotland said that inquiries remained ongoing into the circumstances.<\/p>\n It’s not the first time there has been similar incidents at the beauty spot on recent years. Just last year, a hiker plummeted 25ft at the waterfall on July 17.<\/p>\n Police, Mountain Rescue teams, HM Coastguar<\/a>d and the Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) all attended and the injured hiker was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital<\/a> in Glasgow for treatment.<\/p>\n A person was also airlifted to hospital after falling 15ft into the Scots gorge in May 2022. Crews received reports of a person in the water at 6.40pm, at the River Kelvin near Maryhill Road in Maryhill <\/a>on July 12.<\/p>\n Tragically, the body of the teenager was found <\/a>around five hours later.<\/p>\n The body of a 39-year-old man was also found in the River Tyne at Haddington in East Lothian.<\/p>\n While a 50-year-old man was pulled from the water at Loch Lomond and was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley where he died on Sunday.<\/p>\n A Police Scotland spokesperson previously said: \u201cAround 12.35pm on Saturday, 12 July, 2025, police received a report<\/a> a 63-year-old woman had fallen near Campsie Glen Waterfall Car Park.<\/p>\n “Emergency services attended and the woman died at the scene.
