Newcastle have sent a delegation to Germany for talks over signing Hugo Ekitike, talkSPORT understands.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Newcastle are looking for an extra forward option to play alongside star man Alexander Isak.<\/p>\n

The Swedish forward scored 27 goals across all competitions last term to fire the Magpies to a top five finish and Carabao Cup glory.<\/p>\n

Liverpool<\/a> have also scouted Ekitike heavily after his permanent switch to Frankfurt last summer.<\/p>\n

The Reds have shown an interest in Isak as well but an approach has yet to be made by the Premier League<\/a> champions.<\/p>\n

However, Newcastle are now pushing ahead with their interest in Ekitike.<\/p>\n

Club-to-club talks are yet to take place, though, with the Magpies keen to seal a deal for the former Paris Saint-Germain starlet.<\/p>\n

Their hopes of signing the striker are understood to be seen as 50\/50 at this stage in the transfer saga.<\/p>\n

Ekitike’s move from PSG saw the 23-year-old pen a deal through to the summer of 2029 at the Bundesliga side.<\/p>\n

He scored 15 goals and added eight assists in 33 league matches for the club during the 2024\/25 campaign.<\/p>\n

Newcastle’s interest follows their failed move to sign Joao Pedro earlier in the window.<\/p>\n

The Brazilian instead completed a switch to Chelsea<\/a> from Brighton, signing an eight-year deal at Stamford Bridge.<\/p>\n

Pedro has since scored twice in two appearances for the Blues at the Club World Cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Talks have also been held with Dominic Calvert-Lewin after he left Everton at the end of the campaign.<\/p>\n

Eddie Howe has already lost an option in front of goal after Callum Wilson’s exit.<\/p>\n

The former England international departed upon the expiry of his contract at the end of June.<\/p>\n

Howe is set to have to balance European football with Newcastle’s Premier League exploits this term.<\/p>\n

The club will make their return to the Champions League after a season-long absence thanks to their fifth place finish in the league.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the upcoming campaign, the Magpies have already been busy in the transfer market.<\/p>\n

Teenage winger Antonito Cordero has joined the club from Malaga on a free transfer.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the signing of Anthony Elanga<\/a> from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth \u00a355million on Friday.<\/p>\n

Newcastle began their pre-season campaign with a 4-0 win over Carlisle on Saturday, whilst their opening league fixture will take place on August 16 away to Aston Villa.<\/p>\n
