King Charles and Prince Harry\u2019s royal rift just took a surprising turn.<\/p>\n

The Mail on Sunday was first to report Harry\u2019s top aides met with a senior member of King Charles\u2019 team on July 9 at the Royal Over-Seas League in London.<\/p>\n

Now, a People magazine source says<\/a>, \u201cIt was a good first step. It is always better to be talking.\u201d<\/p>\n

With lines of communication starting to open up, the insider adds, \u201cIt\u2019s a positive step. There\u2019s optimism that it can be taken forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

A\u00a0DailyMail.com\u00a0source adds<\/a>, \u201cThere’s a long road ahead, but a channel of communication is now open for the first time in years. There was no formal agenda, just casual drinks. There were things both sides wanted to talk about.\u201d<\/p>\n

The insider called it a \u201cfirst step towards reconciliation between Harry and his father, but at least it is a step in the right direction.<\/p>\n

The meeting took place between Harry\u2019s chief of staff Meredith Maines, his communications director Liam Maguire and Charles\u2019 communications secretary Tobyn Andreae.<\/p>\n

According to People, Maines and Maguire had never met with Andreae before.<\/p>\n

In May, Prince Harry lost his appeal for public funded security in the U.K.<\/p>\n

Following the loss, he sat down with the\u00a0BBC<\/a>, discussing his strained relationship with his father King Charles.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201c[My father] won’t speak to me because of this security stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the failed appeal, Harry isn\u2019t planning to bring his kids or wife Meghan Markle to the U.K. He said, \u201cThe things they are going to miss is everything.\u00a0I love my country and always have done. Despite what some people in that country have done. So, I miss the U.K. I miss parts of the U.K. Of course I do. I think it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.\u201d<\/p>\n

Referencing Charles\u2019 cancer battle, Harry noted, \u201cI don\u2019t know how long he has left.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harry admitted things have been tense since the release of his memoir \u201cSpare.\u201d He commented, \u201cSome members of my family may never forgive me for writing a book.\u201d<\/p>\n

Without diving into the drama, Harry shared, \u201cThere have been so many disagreements between myself and some of my family.\u201d<\/p>\n
