At <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/sporza.be\/nl\/2025\/07\/13\/monstervlucht-zorgde-ervoor-dat-rickaert-5-keer-moest-braken-maar-had-nog-langer-op-mijn-tanden-moeten-bijten~1752437824423\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Vive le V\u00e9lo<\/a>, the normally reliable domestique explained on Sunday evening that his body was utterly exhausted after a duo attack with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idlprocycling.com\/mathieu-van-der-poel\" title=\"Mathieu van der Poel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mathieu van der Poel<\/a>, who was eventually caught in the final kilometer by a sprinting peloton.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>If they had both made it to the finish, Rickaert would have won. But the 31-year-old Belgian was so exhausted that he had to let Van der Poel go six kilometers from the finish line. That was no easy decision; he had no energy left in him. \u201cThe massage did me good, and it was necessary. Apparently, my stomach couldn&#8217;t handle the effort. I vomited five times. The Dutchman&#8217;s comment had clearly made an impression.
