Around 125 firefighters were called to tackle a large grass fire at a London park which saw residents evacuated from their homes.<\/p>\n

A wildfire response vehicle joined 20 fire engines at the scene of the blaze at Beam Parklands in Dagenham on Monday, July 14, evening.<\/p>\n

The fire involved around eight eight hectares of grass, shrubland and trees, as well as fences and garden furniture, London Fire Brigade confirmed.<\/p>\n

Residents were urged to keep their doors and windows and shut due to the smoke.<\/p>\n

Road closures were put in place while fire crews tackled the flames, with people advised to avoid the area.<\/p>\n

Firefighter Craig Fenner said: “Firefighters worked extremely hard to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby properties.<\/p>\n

“The fire had reached some garden fences, sheds and garden furniture.<\/p>\n

“As well as our jets, we used wildfire beaters to beat the flames and stop them from reaching the properties.<\/p>\n

“Firefighters will remain at the scene for the next few hours to continue to dampen down the surrounding area.”<\/p>\n

London Fire Brigade said its wildfire response vehicle, which is able to carry around 475 litres of water, was sent to the scene.<\/p>\n

Wildfire beaters, used to deprive flames of oxygen and cool them down, were also used to prevent the fire from spreading.<\/p>\n

The brigade received the first of 75 calls alerting them to the blaze at 6.30pm.<\/p>\n

London fire crews have been sent to three separate grass fires in the city tonight<\/p>\n

Fire crews from Dagenham, Hornchurch, Wennington, Romford and other surrounding fire stations were sent to the scene.<\/p>\n

In an update just after 9.30pm, London Fire Brigade said firefighters were continuing to dampen down the area.<\/p>\n

The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.<\/p>\n

It is one of three grass fires to have occurred in London tonight.<\/p>\n

In another incident, eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters were called to a grass fire in Hornchurch, East London.<\/p>\n

The blaze on Wingletye Lane involved about six hectares of grassland.<\/p>\n

Fire crews were called to the scene at 8.10pm.<\/p>\n

Residents have been told to keep their doors and windows closed.<\/p>\n

A further eight fire engines and estimated 60 firefighters are tackling a third grass fire in Walthomstow, East London.<\/p>\n
