{"id":265913,"date":"2025-07-15T03:40:18","date_gmt":"2025-07-15T03:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/265913\/"},"modified":"2025-07-15T03:40:18","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T03:40:18","slug":"ruthin-gaol-and-nantclwyd-y-dre-honoured-with-visit-wales-hidden-gem-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/265913\/","title":{"rendered":"Ruthin Gaol and Nantclwyd y Dre Honoured with Visit Wales Hidden Gem Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206761\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/NantclwydYDre.jpg\" alt=\"NantclwydYDre\" width=\"600\" height=\"361\"  \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Two of Denbighshire\u2019s popular heritage attractions, Ruthin Gaol and Nantclwyd y Dre, have each received a 2025 \u2018Hidden Gem\u2019 award.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Awarded annually by Visit Wales, the \u2018Hidden Gem\u2019 scheme celebrates destinations that might fall outside of the normal tourist spots, but which are well worth a slight detour to visit, thanks to the memorable visits they offer.<\/p>\n<p>Offering a Victorian prison experience, Ruthin Gaol provides visitors with an exploration of life behind bars in the 19th century, discovering stories of infamous inmates such as the Welsh Houdini, Coch Bach y Bala, while visitors to Nantclwyd y Dre can step through over 500 years of history, from the medieval to WWII eras, and wander in its beautifully kept gardens.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-206762\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Ruthin-Gaol-2.jpg\" alt=\"Ruthin Gaol (2)\" width=\"600\" height=\"360\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Filled with interactive trails and activities that allow visitors of all ages to discover the stories they have to tell, the unique histories both each attraction is brought to life through audio guided tours, fascinating exhibitions, and immersive soundscapes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Carly Davies, Heritage Lead Officer, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe are incredibly proud that Ruthin Gaol and Nantclwyd y Dre have been awarded Hidden Gem status for another year. We are always looking for new and exciting ways to bring the history of our historic attractions to life, so it is wonderful to receive this recognition from Visit Wales.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Councillor Emrys Wynne, Lead Member for Welsh Language, Culture and Heritage, added:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt is fantastic that Ruthin Gaol and Nantclwyd y Dre have been recognised as Hidden Gems by Visit Wales.
