The Met Office<\/a> has issued a weather warning for thunderstorms for Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n

The yellow weather<\/a> warning will be in place tomorrow, Thursday, July 17, from 11am to 8pm, for the first day of The Open. It is expected to impact much of the region, but is likely to be heaviest in the west.<\/p>\n

Heavy rain is also to be expected during the time, with around 30-40mm of rainfall possible over a few hours.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Heavy showers and a few thunderstorms may cause some disruption, particularly to travel<\/a>, on Thursday.<\/p>\n

“Showery rain will affect much of Northern Ireland <\/a>at times Thursday, but is expected to be heaviest in the west. A few thunderstorms are also likely.<\/p>\n

“10-20 mm of rain could fall in less than a few hours, with 30-40 mm possible over several hours. Showers and thunderstorms will ease from the west during the evening.”<\/p>\n

The alert comes after a similar thunderstorm warning<\/a> was in place on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
