{"id":266458,"date":"2025-07-16T11:18:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T11:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/266458\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T11:18:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T11:18:12","slug":"three-time-grand-slam-finalist-withdraws-from-upcoming-wta-tournament-after-admitting-its-been-really-tough-lately","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/266458\/","title":{"rendered":"Three-time Grand Slam finalist withdraws from upcoming WTA tournament after admitting \u2018it\u2019s been really tough lately\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Tennis simply does not stop for anyone after the conclusion of the Wimbledon Championships.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wimbledon saw two new champions in the singles events this year, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jimmy-connors-suggests-if-he-thinks-amanda-anisimova-can-ever-recover-from-her-heavy-defeat-to-iga-swiatek-at-wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iga Swiatek thrashing Amanda Anisimova<\/a> to win her sixth major title.<\/p>\n<p>While in the men\u2019s singles tournament, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/the-lesson-jannik-sinner-learnt-about-carlos-alcaraz-at-the-french-open-which-helped-him-beat-him-in-the-wimbledon-final\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jannik Sinner got revenge over Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/french-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roland Garros<\/a> final.<\/p>\n<p>Despite these players all reaching the latter stages of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> this year, a two-time finalist suffered an emotional exit in the first round.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2222143562-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Ons Jabeur reacts as she plays against Bulgaria's Viktoriya Tomova during their women's singles first round tennis match on the first day of the 2025 Wimbledon Championships at The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon.\" \/>Photo by HENRY NICHOLLS\/AFP via Getty ImagesOns Jabeur withdraws from Canadian Open after tearful Wimbledon retirement<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/ons-jabeur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ons Jabeur<\/a> is a three-time Grand Slam finalist and has been ranked as high as world number two.<\/p>\n<p>However, the last year has been challenging for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/jasmine-paolini-sends-message-to-ons-jabeur-as-she-retires-with-an-injury-during-their-miami-open-third-round-match\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jabeur, who has been struggling with a shoulder and leg injury<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Tunisian did not succumb to those injuries in her first round match at Wimbledon this year, but instead Jabeur, who is asthmatic, was struggling to breathe in the scorching heat on day one of the Championships.<\/p>\n<p>After losing the first set to Viktoriya Tomova, a tearful <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/ons-jabeur-makes-statement-after-withdrawing-from-wimbledon-and-confirms-what-shes-planning-to-do-next\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jabeur was forced to retire from the match<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after exiting Wimbledon, Jabeur admitted that she had been struggling recently and announced that she needed to take some time away to heal.<\/p>\n<p>She wrote on Instagram, \u201cThank you to everyone supporting me. Your love means more than you know, especially in times like this. It\u2019s been really tough lately\u2026 I just need time to heal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd to those who find joy in my pain. I truly hope you find the kindness you\u2019re missing.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DLjqsz0N0bT\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\"background:#FFF;border:0;border-radius:3px;margin: 1px;max-width:540px;min-width:326px;padding:0;width:99.375%;width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px);width:calc(100% - 2px)\"\/>\n<p>Jabeur has stuck to her word, as it has now been confirmed that she has officially withdrawn from the upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/canadian-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canadian Open<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 30-year-old is not the only player to have withdrawn from the tournament in Montreal, with Britain\u2019s Sonay Kartal also pulling out.<\/p>\n<p>Jabeur and Kartal have subsequently been replaced by Suzan Lamens and Renata Zarazua in the main draw.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Two players have withdrawn from the 2025 National Bank Open presented by Rogers: Ons Jabeur (TUN) and Sonay Kartal (GBR).<\/p>\n<p>As a result of their withdrawal, Suzan Lamens (NED) and Renata Zarazua (MEX) will enter the main draw. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/6mwoWbshpE\">pic.twitter.com\/6mwoWbshpE<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Omnium Banque Nationale (@OBNmontreal) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OBNmontreal\/status\/1945109845834920331?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">July 15, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>View Tweet<\/p>\n<p> Ons Jabeur suffers ranking drop after Wimbledon heartbreak<\/p>\n<p>As a result of Jabeur\u2019s first round exit at Wimbledon this year, it means that her ranking has also suffered.<\/p>\n<p>Jabeur has fallen 12 places down to world number 71 this week, which is her lowest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wta\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WTA<\/a> ranking since January 2020.<\/p>\n<p>This was before Jabeur had even reached a Grand Slam quarterfinal for the first time, whereas now she has been runner-up at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/us-open\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">US Open<\/a> (2022) and Wimbledon twice (2022 &amp; 2023).<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately for Jabeur, she only has 10 points to defend now until the end of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/news\/ons-jabeur-outlines-her-return-date-as-she-confirms-injury-will-end-her-2024-season-early\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jabeur ended her season after the Canadian Open last year<\/a> due to her ongoing shoulder issues, and therefore is unlikely to drop much further down the rankings this year despite her inactivity.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>  <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tennis simply does not stop for anyone after the conclusion of the Wimbledon Championships.
