Actor Robert Powell has spoken out about his four-year battle with Camden Council over e-bikes piling up in a parking bay outside his Highgate<\/a> home.<\/p>\n

The Bafta<\/a>-nominated actor, known for his roles in Jesus of Nazareth and Holby City<\/a>, said he had \u201csent 570 photographs\u201d showing the bikes cluttering his doorstep and had urged the council to intervene via email.<\/p>\n

The 81-year-old said he and his wife Barbara Lord once had 100 bikes outside their front door.<\/p>\n

The actor told the Camden New Journal<\/a>: \u201cYou\u2019ve got two octogenarians here who are in danger of being killed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe entire pave\u00adment has been blocked by bikes. Camden say they prioritise safety and safer travel, so do they know that allowing bikes on pavchatements is not safe for anyone?<\/p>\n

\u201cLast year we called the police about the bikes, they just laughed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The spot is particularly popular because of its proximity to Hampstead Heath<\/a>, Mr Powell told the newspaper.<\/p>\n

He said he was terrified of having a heart attack for having to move around 10 or 12 bikes a day.<\/p>\n

Mr Powell said his GP had even written a letter to the council detailing the stress the situation was causing the couple.<\/p>\n

Camden Council has said it is working to relocate the bay and has marked out a new bay further up the lane.<\/p>\n

A spokesman said: \u201cWe\u2019ve been in touch with Mr Powell and Mrs Lord and assured them that we\u2019re using our powers to relocate this bay while we work to secure a new permanent location.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we\u2019re committed to promoting active travel options like cycling, we also understand how inappropriate parking of electric bikes can block access for residents.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of our new approach, our team have been busy enforcing the removal of obstructive bikes \u2013 without notice \u2013 as part of their regular inspections.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lime were unable to offer a comment but said it was working with Camden Council to relocate the bay and create more space for e-bikes.<\/p>\n

It also indicated that the parking bay could be better placed and recommended it be moved due to issues with overcrowding.<\/p>\n

Alex Berwin, Head of Policy at Forest said:\u201cWe fully understand the frustrations of the resident and have, on this occasion, decided to remove the parking bay from the Forest app.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have also cleared the small number of our bikes already parked there from this location.<\/p>\n
