This summer, the hotel is hosting a series of literary salons to bring together their most well-read guests. Called Conversations From the Sea Library, the events feature thoughtful discussions with writers and readers, including internationally acclaimed poet David Whyte.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"2\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">\u201cPlacing a library at the center of the hotel was a natural instinct and a way to tell the stories that arose from Formentera,\u201d says Teranka\u2019s interior designer Katrina Phillips, who curated the property\u2019s robust book collection and programmed Conversations From the Sea Library. \u201cIt\u2019s important that a hotel library is more than just decoration or a token gesture, [but] somewhere you\u2019d like to delve in and explore.\u201d Reading doesn\u2019t have to be a solitary activity. \u201cBooks and the library at Teranka exist to encourage conversation and a sense of community,\u201d she adds. <\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Group of individuals reading together outdoors while wrapped in blankets\" title=\"Group of individuals reading together outdoors while wrapped in blankets\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1600\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" style=\"color:transparent;width:100%;height:auto;\"   src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/b66d68d8-aca8-4203-9a6d-8bc9fcd6858a-1-105-c-6875749917742.jpeg\" class=\"css-0 e1g79fud0\"\/>Madison Pittman<\/p>\n<p>An autumn Page Break retreat held in Kerhonkson, New York. The group read Model Home by Rivers Solomon.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"6\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">Community through <strong data-node-id=\"6.1\"\/>reading is also the premise behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pagebreak.nyc\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.pagebreak.nyc\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Page Break\" data-node-id=\"6.5\" class=\"body-link css-inlxvj emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">Page Break<\/a>, an organization that hosts New York-based reading retreats in both New York City and upstate boutique hotels, including The Henson and Rhinebrook Estate, which promise to leave guests well-read and well-fed. (The itineraries include book-themed tasting menus prepared by the who\u2019s who of the New York City culinary scene.)<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"8\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">What makes Page Break unique is that the group reads the same book in its entirety over the course of the weekend. Most of the reading happens in group sessions where members taking turns reading out loud. \u201cA magical thing happens when we all actively listen to each other,\u201d says founder Mikey Friedman, who has led 12 retreats so far. \u201cIt really enhances the way you experience a book.\u201d Friedman was inspired by the mental health benefits of reading together that he found in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thereader.org.uk\/reading-wellbeing\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.thereader.org.uk\/reading-wellbeing\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"study\" data-node-id=\"8.3\" class=\"body-link css-inlxvj emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> conducted by the UK-based non-profit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thereader.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.thereader.org.uk\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"The Reader\" data-node-id=\"8.7\" class=\"body-link css-inlxvj emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">The Reader<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"9\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">Delia Cai, freelance writer and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deezlinks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.deezlinks.com\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Deez Links\" data-node-id=\"9.1\" class=\"body-link css-inlxvj emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">Deez Links<\/a>, recently went on a Page Break retreat in upstate New York. \u201cIf I was very new to New York and wanted to meet some like-minded, book-loving people, this would be such an easy way to make friends and have a really lovely weekend,\u201d says Cai of her experience. <\/p>\n<blockquote data-theme-key=\"pullquote\" class=\"css-sihlup e1pe3zr91\">\n<blockquote class=\"css-1x1z34c e1pe3zr90\"><p>\u201cThe idea of a group of friends reading, drinking wine, and sharing a great story while here is a dream for us.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"11\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">And what\u2019s great for readers is also great for writers. Page Break chooses to support diverse, queer, and debut authors and invites them to do Q&amp;As. These writers then get the opportunity to connect directly with their audience, which can be an especially powerful boost of confidence for new authors.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"12\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">In a similar vein, <a href=\"https:\/\/scribnerslodge.com\/happening-at-scribners\/booked-in-at-scribners-2024\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/scribnerslodge.com\/happening-at-scribners\/booked-in-at-scribners-2024\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Scribner\u2019s Lodge\" data-node-id=\"12.1\" class=\"body-link css-inlxvj emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">Scribner\u2019s Lodge<\/a> in the Catskills hosted Booked In, a two-night literary retreat last December. The retreat will run again this November and will be a regular occurrence. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"13\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">And it\u2019s not just a passing trend\u2014well-curated libraries are becoming table stakes for luxury hotels, and properties are investing time and energy into building them. Hotel Lilien, an 18-room boutique hotel located in the Catskills, recently partnered with the Brooklyn independent shop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.booksaremagic.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.booksaremagic.net\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Books Are Magic\" data-node-id=\"13.3\" class=\"body-link css-inlxvj emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">Books Are Magic<\/a> to curate their literary offering. The <a href=\"https:\/\/ildelfino.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/ildelfino.com.au\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"Il Delfino\" data-node-id=\"15.1\" class=\"body-link css-inlxvj emevuu60\" rel=\"noopener\">Il Delfino<\/a>, a seaside inn in Australia, recently launched its library with handpicked selections by owner Sheree Commerford, who chose works from some of her favorite guests, artists, and literary icons. \u201cSince starting it, we\u2019ve noticed that book clubs have taken a real interest in Il Delfino, and we love that,\u201d Commerford says. \u201cThe idea of a group of friends reading, drinking wine, and sharing a great story while here is a dream for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"16\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">Partnering with hotels is also a way for virtual book clubs to gather in-person. Reese\u2019s Book Club just announced a partnership with World of Hyatt and Under Canvas hotels to host a limited series of luxury glamping holidays with beloved authors behind the book club\u2019s picks. \u201cThrough our partnership with World of Hyatt, we now can bring our community together IRL, driving meaningful conversation and connection in nature around the stories they love,\u201d says Sarah Harden, CEO of Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon\u2019s media company.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"17\" class=\"css-i9p093 emevuu60\">But why the new focus on reading-fueled travel?
