Donald Trump plans to sign a trade deal with the UK in just three weeks, White House officials say. Britain is set for a rapid deal, according to reports. It comes after US vice president JD Vance said the US is \u201cworking very hard\u201d on a trade deal with the UK thanks partly to the President\u2019s love of the royal family.<\/p>\n
First in line for a US deal are Japan, India and South Korea according to reports, with the President keen to get agreements in Asia in order to isolate China. But a White House official told the Telegraph an agreement with the UK was expected \u201csoon\u201d. The source said: \u201cTwo weeks. Or maybe three.\u201d<\/p>\n
The US has currently imposed a 10% tariff on most imports from the UK, while the fee on vehicles and steel or aluminium products is 25%. Mr Trump has also said he plans a 25% tariff on pharmaceutical products<\/a>.<\/p>\n However the UK is in a good position to obtain a deal because it imports more from the US than it exports. Mr Trump has said one of his aims is to reduce America\u2019s trade deficit.<\/p>\n Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer<\/a> has said the UK will \u201ckeep calm and fight for the best deal with the US\u201d<\/a> in the face of US tariffs. The Government\u2019s top priority is to persuade the US to eliminate or cut tariffs on cars, after British-made vehicles worth \u00a39 billion were sold in the US last year.<\/p>\n US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is reported to have made the UK, Australia, South Korea, India and Japan the top targets for new trade deals and has been in touch with officials from all five countries.<\/p>\n
