\n\tAs reports of a potential royal reconciliation<\/a> continue to pop up, Prince William<\/a> and Kate Middleton<\/a> are said to be keeping their distance<\/a> \u2014 and their guard up.<\/p>\n

\n\tOver the weekend, news broke that representatives for Prince Harry<\/a> and King Charles quietly met at the Royal Over-Seas League in London, signaling what some insiders called \u201cthe first step towards reconciliation\u201d between the Sussexes and the royal institution. The Sunday summit, reportedly attended by the King\u2019s communications secretary Tobyn Andreae and Harry\u2019s newly installed chief of communications Meredith Maines, took place just blocks from Clarence House.<\/p>\n

\n\tBut one absence stood out: the Prince and Princess of Wales. \u201cIt\u2019s no coincidence that William and Catherine did not have a representative at the Royal Over-Seas League,\u201d a friend of the couple told The Mail<\/a>. \u201cThey were not asked to send anyone and will be treating the talks with extreme caution. The fact that it ended up in the newspapers tells you all you need to know.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThat wary approach reflects years of fractured trust. Prince Harry has said he would \u201clove a reconciliation\u201d with both his brother and father, and in May told the BBC he was \u201ctired of fighting.\u201d But according to royal insiders, William remains deeply hurt by what he sees as repeated public betrayals \u2014 including Harry\u2019s 2023 memoir Spare<\/a> and the couple\u2019s Netflix docuseries.<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile aides may be making moves behind the scenes, William and Kate have yet to receive the one thing they\u2019re said to be holding out for: an apology. \u201cThe simple fact is that Meghan has gone back on the deal by using her HRH,\u201d one insider previously told The Daily Beast. \u201cIf she now intends to start parading the kids as HRHs to aggrandize herself, it just adds to the case to remove them, legally, altogether.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe family divide has had personal consequences, too. \u201cWilliam and Kate don\u2019t have any relationship with Archie and Lilibet,\u201d GB News Royal Editor Svar Nanan-Sen said on The Royal Record podcast. \u201cArchie and Lilibet have no relationship with George, Charlotte and Louis \u2014 and they\u2019re cousins.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhether this latest peace attempt amounts to anything remains to be seen. For now, the Waleses appear content to keep their distance \u2014 and their silence.<\/p>\n
