class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The council has confirmed Easter bin collection details as the strike by union members continues after a breakdown in talks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Unite members have been embroiled in a bitter dispute with <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-city-council\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham City Council<\/a> since the start of the year, when the authority announced it was axing its Waste Recycling and Collection Officer roles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The dispute ramped up on March 11 to an all-out strike \u2013 with Unite members walking out and protesting at picket lines at the city\u2019s three waste depots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And after more than a month, bin lorries manned by non-striking crews have been delayed leaving the depots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Read more: <a piles of waste piling up in the city\u2019s streets, any hopes of a pre-Easter resolution ended this week when the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/birmingham-bin-workers-ballot-breaking-31420542\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">latest council offer was rejected<\/a> on Monday (April 14)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And on Wednesday, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/news\/midlands-news\/birmingham-bin-strike-talks-collapse-31439389\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Unite said talks had broken downLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Unite said talks had broken down<\/a> and were making four demands for the strike to end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Amidst the ongoing dispute, the city council has been battling to keep a basic bin service going, aiming to have one collection of household waste from every city address a week.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">And it has now confirmed its Easter collection schedule in <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Birmingham<\/a>, with a \u2018usual\u2019 or \u2018strike usual\u2019 service expected on Good Friday (April 18) despite it being a Bank Holiday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There will also be a limited Easter Saturday (April 19) service as crews battle to clear some of the bin bag backlog.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">But there will be no collections on Easter Sunday (April 20).<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Then on Easter Monday (April 21) waste collection crews will be back out again \u2018as usual\u2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><strong class=\"Strong_strong__e2x35\">Read more: <a extended hours throughout the weekend, but slots must be <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.birmingham.gov.uk\/info\/50277\/household_recycling_centres\/94\/book_a_hrc_appointment\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">booked in crews out on time and clearing the backlog of rubbish in areas still affected.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cAs of Wednesday 16th, we had cleared 20,000 tons of household waste with support from partners, residents and Birmingham City Council staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThanks to everyone\u2019s hard work, we\u2019re now able to return to following our contingency plan \u2013 providing you with one collection each week on your designated collection day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cBoth our waste collection and clean-up crews have been working hard across the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Typically, we collect around 1,000 to 1,100 tonnes of waste per day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cRemarkably, during the current industrial action our teams have managed to collect around 1,500 \u20131,700 daily despite having a reduced team.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThis just shows the dedication of our teams and the pressing need to transform the service to deliver a more resilient and efficient
