The couple were arrested following a seven-week manhunt in 2023, sparked by the discovery of a placenta in their burning car\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_6-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Marten is the daughter of Napier Marten, once a page for <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/queen-elizabeth\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Queen Elizabeth II,<\/a> and the granddaughter of Mary Anna Marten, who was the goddaughter of the Queen Mother, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/resources\/idt-f59836ed-24c7-481c-bfee-f39549487c64\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_8-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> The BBC reported Marten told friends that when she was a child, she would play with <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/prince-william\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince William<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/tag\/prince-harry\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prince Harry<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_10-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Marten reportedly cut ties with her family in 2016, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/uk-aristocrat-constance-marten-partner-mark-gordon-guilty-baby-death\/\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p> Mark Gordon.<\/p>\n<p>Metropolitan Police\/AFP via Getty<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_13-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Prior to his relationship with Marten, Gordon had spent 20 years in a U.S. prison after being convicted of raping a woman at knifepoint in Florida when he was 14, according to the BBC.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_15-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Following his release from prison, Gordon was deported to the U.K. in 2010. The BBC reported that Marten and Gordon met a few years later.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_17-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Together, the couple had four other children in addition to Victoria.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_19-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> <strong>Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? On March 1, Victoria\u2019s body was found inside a bag near where they had been staying.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_23-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Victoria\u2019s cause of death remains undetermined, police said, though they claimed Marten told officers that the baby had died in her sleep and didn\u2019t elaborate further.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_25-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;Victoria&#8217;s death was completely avoidable,\u201d Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford said in a statement. \u201cThe couple had plenty of opportunities to do the right thing and come forward to ask for help.
