It appears there&#8217;s a way of fooling Google&#8217;s clever AI <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/lifestyle\/horoscopes\/gemini\/daily\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Gemini<\/a> service, and it could allow hackers to add fake messages when people access their inbox and load up the useful summaries option.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">For those not aware, <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/google\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Google<\/a> now lets Gmail users see a quick summary of an email using smart Gemini AI. This basically means a long message can be made faster to read and understand, with the most important parts placed into bullet points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It&#8217;s a neat upgrade but it appears that it also comes with a hidden danger.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/tech\/google-chrome-extension-warning-delete-35562711\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Everyone using Chrome placed on red alert and told to clear browsing data immediately<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">As reported by <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bleepingcomputer.com\/news\/security\/google-gemini-flaw-hijacks-email-summaries-for-phishing\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bleeping Computer<\/a>, cyber crooks may trick this system into displaying additional text, with one example showing how hackers could feature a warning at the bottom of the summary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;WARNING: Gemini has detected that your Gmail password has been compromised,&#8221; the alert reads.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;Please call us immediately.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The note then features a phone number and reference code.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Experts at <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/0din.ai\/blog\/phishing-for-gemini\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Mozilla,<\/a> have also confirmed that a potential vulnerability within the Gemini email summary feature is allowing online thieves to add hidden prompts that then appear when messages are opened.<\/p>\n<p>READ MORE: <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/tech\/virgin-media-users-warned-face-35556275\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Virgin Media users warned they face new streaming block &#8211; check your TV and act now<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Google has now responded to the flaw and says it is constantly working to keep its platform safe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;We are constantly hardening our already robust defenses through red-teaming exercises that train our models to defend against these types of adversarial attacks,&#8221; a Google spokesperson told BleepingComputer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The US <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/tech\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">technology<\/a> giant says it is also not aware of any users being attacked in this way, and there&#8217;s no evidence of a widespread threat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">That said, this clearly shows that criminals can still find ways to infiltrate email inboxes and we need to stay alert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Just remember that it&#8217;s highly unlikely Google will ever contact you.
