Police said motors should not exceed 250W.<\/p>\n<p>Police said e-bikes were also seized for having no tax and insurance as they were considered a mechanical vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Some bikes could be worth more than \u00a35,000 depending on the modifications made to them.<\/p>\n<p>The seized bikes were due to be crushed at a police impound.<\/p>\n<p>Pc Paige Gartlan told BirminghamLive: &#8220;These e-bikes are moving past people at high speed. They&#8217;re especially dangerous for children, the elderly and partially sighted people.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We want to raise awareness of the bikes. They shouldn&#8217;t be reaching the speeds they are. They are actually illegal bikes and can be considered dangerous.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"caas-img caas-lazy has-preview\" alt=\"Police seized a number of e-bikes in the city centre -Credit:Nick Wilkinson\/Birmingham Live\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/028fcec79a1320bfbea6d693c1db915f.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Police seized a number of e-bikes in the city centre -Credit:Nick Wilkinson\/Birmingham Live<\/p>\n<p>Four immigration-related arrests were also made by officers from the Home Office in the joint operation with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/west-midlands-police\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:West Midlands Police;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">West Midlands Police<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Police worked with partners including British Transport Police, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/all-about\/birmingham-city-council\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Birmingham City Council;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Birmingham City Council<\/a>, security staff, business improvement districts during Operation Advance.<\/p>\n<p>Activity started before dawn with officers heading out to arrest suspects wanted for a range of offences.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Chief Constable Paul Drover, who oversees local policing, said: &#8220;Operation Advance is all about using our combined resources and skills, from areas such as intelligence, major crime, operations, road policing, and local policing, to make a real difference in one of our seven local policing areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.birminghammail.co.uk\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Birmingham;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Birmingham<\/a>\u2019s turn, with the city centre as well as communities across the wider city seeing action from the influx of officers that Advance brings with it.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A dozen &#8216;dangerous&#8217; modified e-bikes were seized by police during an illegal clampdown in Birmingham city centre.
