Customers at Easton Leisure Centre will face disruption this summer due to the centre’s multimillion-pound refurbishment<\/a>. The sports hall will be closed to indoor sports<\/a> from July 30 until November, but group exercise classes will continue inside.<\/p>\n The centre’s gym will be closed for one and a half days on August 5 and 6. A temporary gym will be set up in the squash courts and sports hall during the closure.<\/p>\n The disruptions will be caused by extensive refurbishment works taking place as part of the leisure centre’s \u00a33.8m upgrade. The centre is run by Everyone Active in partnership with Bristol City Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n The centrepiece of the upgrade is a new women-only gym. A large soft play area is also being built. The refurbishment is also making the existing gym bigger, and new equipment is being put in place. Meanwhile, the reception, caf\u00e9 and seating area are also being expanded.<\/p>\n A new changing room for the leisure centre’s swimming pool is also being built. The multimillion-pound refurbishment is part of Bristol City Council\u2019s Facilities Investment Strategy, announced in 2002. Horfield<\/a> Leisure Centre recently completed its own upgrade, at an estimated cost of \u00a34.8m, as part of the strategy.<\/p>\n The Easton<\/a> upgrade has not been without controversy. Although large parts of the leisure centre are being upgraded or expanded, the only full-sized netball court is being removed to make way for the soft play area.<\/p>\n Netball coach Sue Anderson, who ran sessions at the centre before refurbishment works started in April, previously told Bristol Live she was “devastated” by the change.<\/p>\n “It took me years to build this session, to get the women\u2019s confidence, for them to feel at ease that they can come, they can play, nobody\u2019s going to come in and bother them,” she said.<\/p>\n “It\u2019s even at the point that they\u2019re playing in a league, which is phenomenal for this area.
