{"id":269905,"date":"2025-07-17T17:44:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T17:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/269905\/"},"modified":"2025-07-17T17:44:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T17:44:09","slug":"former-world-no-2-ons-jabeur-steps-back-from-tennis-to-rediscover-the-joy-of-simply-living","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/269905\/","title":{"rendered":"Former world No. 2 Ons Jabeur steps back from tennis to \u2018rediscover the joy of simply living\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former world No. 2 Ons Jabeur has announced she is taking a step back from tennis to \u201crediscover the joy of simply living\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The two-time Wimbledon finalist said in a statement on her social media that she has not \u201cfelt happy on the court for some time now\u201d and believes it is time to \u201ctake a step back and finally put (herself) first\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Jabeur retired from her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6462182\/2025\/06\/30\/ons-jabeur-retires-injured-wimbledon-tomova\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first-round match<\/a> against Viktoriya Tomova at The All England Club this year due to injury. She was a set and a break behind when she shook hands with the Bulgarian after calling for a medical time-out.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Thank you for your support \ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffb\u2764\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AiffrjDzU0\">pic.twitter.com\/AiffrjDzU0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ons Jabeur (@Ons_Jabeur) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Ons_Jabeur\/status\/1945832184117391514?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">July 17, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The 30-year-old reached the finals of both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in 2022 before again getting to the final at The All England Club a year later. The straight sets defeat by Mark\u00e9ta Vondrou\u0161ov\u00e1 in 2023 was described by Jabeur as the most painful of her career.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 season has seen Jabeur knocked out of the French Open in the first round, after she was forced to end her season last year early due to a shoulder injury. Her injury problems recurred as she strained a leg muscle in this year\u2019s Miami Open.<\/p>\n<p>She did not indicate in her announcement when she would return to tennis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor the past two years, I\u2019ve been pushing myself so hard, fighting through injuries and facing many other challenges,\u201d her message said. \u201cBut deep down, I haven\u2019t felt truly happy on the court for some time now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTennis is such a beautiful sport. But right now, I feel it\u2019s time to take a step back and finally put myself first: to breathe, to heal, and to rediscover the joy of simply living.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThank you to all my fans for understanding. Your support and love mean the world to me.
