Captured by Donglin Zhou, the photograph took the $5,000 Grand Prize in this year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bigpicturecompetition.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Big Picture Competition<\/a>, highlighting a rare, daring moment as the troop emerged in search of food.<\/p>\n<p>BigPicture aims to highlight the earth\u2019s phenomenal biodiversity and encourage important conservation efforts. Jurors reviewed thousands of entries submitted to the 12th annual contest, highlighting photographers\u2019 unique global takes on aquatic, winged, and terrestrial life, along with landscapes, the human-nature relationship, and a creative category called \u201cArt of Nature.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/bigpicture-6.jpg\" alt=\"an aerial photo of whales swimming among ice floes\" class=\"wp-image-458809\"  \/>Jonas Beyer, \u201cThe Pathfinders\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cast your vote by July 31 for your favorite photo as part of the 2nd annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bigpicturecompetition.org\/peoples-choice-award\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">People\u2019s Choice Award<\/a>. The BigPicture exhibition opens on October 5 at California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, and entries for the 2026 contest will be accepted starting December 1.
