\nthe background,\u201d the statement continued. \u201cIf you do spot us, please come say
\nhi. Whether you\u2019re a fan, journalist, team director, or even an ASO staffer,
\nthere\u2019s always a cup of coffee waiting at the camper.\u201d<\/p>\n

The situation escalated behind the scenes in early June,
\nwhen ASO sent an email to PCS CEO Stephan van der Zwan. According to BikeRadar<\/a>,
\nthe message made it clear: ASO considers itself the \u201cexclusive owner of the
\nexploitation rights for the cycling events\u201d it organises, including the Tour de
\nFrance, La Vuelta, and Paris\u2013Roubaix.<\/p>\n

The email accused PCS of \u201criding on the coat tails of
\ncertain ASO events for which it holds no media accreditation by conspicuously
\nparking a campervan branded with the \u2018ProCyclingStats.com\u2019 trademark.\u201d<\/p>\n

Van der Zwan says a tense meeting followed. \u201cI opened the
\nmeeting and had five people against me instead of one, including their highest
\nlawyer. They only wanted to tell me \u2018We don\u2019t want you here anymore.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The impasse was resolved with a compromise: PCS would
\nremain, but the branding had to go. Van der Zwan has leaned into the absurdity
