{"id":270486,"date":"2025-07-17T22:52:15","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T22:52:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/270486\/"},"modified":"2025-07-17T22:52:15","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T22:52:15","slug":"hundreds-take-part-in-protests-near-asylum-hotel-in-epping","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/270486\/","title":{"rendered":"Hundreds take part in protests near asylum hotel in Epping"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Our officers have been at a planned protest in Epping throughout the afternoon today, and are now aware of some protestors using fireworks and eggs in the crowds,&#8221; said a police spokesperson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We have closed a section of High Road, Epping, for the safety of the public and those protesting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The spokesperson added: &#8220;One man has already been arrested at today&#8217;s protest on suspicion of affray.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Chris Whitbread, the Conservative leader of Epping Forest District Council, had called for an end to a hotel in the area being used to house asylum seekers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He was joined by two local Conservative MPs &#8211; Epping Forest&#8217;s Neil Hudson and Alex Burghart, who represents Brentwood and Ongar.
