{"id":271958,"date":"2025-07-18T11:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T11:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/271958\/"},"modified":"2025-07-18T11:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T11:54:09","slug":"check-out-robbie-williams-exclusive-british-pop-playlist-for-nme-and-new-single-spies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/271958\/","title":{"rendered":"Check out Robbie Williams&#8217; exclusive &#8216;British Pop&#8217; playlist for NME and new single &#8216;Spies&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/ROBBIE-WILLIAMS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robbie Williams<\/a> has shared a stacked playlist of \u2018British Pop\u2019 exclusively for NME, as well as dropping his anthemic single \u2018Spies\u2019 and the tracklist for new album \u2018Britpop\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Spies\u2019 marks the second single to be lifted from the former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/take-that\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Take That<\/a> star turned solo sensation\u2019s 13th album \u2018Britpop\u2019, having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robbie-williams-announces-new-album-britpop-shares-blistering-single-with-black-sabbaths-tony-iommi-3863859\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">launched the record with \u2018Rocket\u2019 featuring Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi<\/a> back in May.<\/p>\n<p>Having spoken of how the new record looks back to a \u201cgolden age for British music\u201d in the min-90s, the \u2018Angels\u2019 star has now shared a playlist of his UK influences and favourite stars from across the last 40 years \u2013 featuring the likes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/JOHNNY-MARR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Johnny Marr<\/a> and Bernard Sumner\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/ELECTRONIC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Electronic<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/mcalmont-and-butler\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McAlmont And Butler<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/Richard-hawley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Richard Hawley<\/a> both solo and with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/longpigs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Longpigs<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/david-bowie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Bowie<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/THE-1975\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 1975<\/a>, and past collaborators <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/pet-shop-boys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pet Shop Boys<\/a>. In keeping with the album, \u2018Spies\u2019 has an air of nostalgia as Williams looks back on past hedonism: \u201cWe used to stay up all night\/Thinking we were all spies\/Praying that tomorrow won\u2019t come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI set out to create the album that I wanted to write and release after I left Take That in 1995,\u201d he said of his upcoming record \u2013 which features a classic photo of Williams backstage at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robbie-williams-says-partying-with-oasis-at-glastonbury-was-start-of-his-new-life-3326011\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Glastonbury 1995 where he famously partied with Oasis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British Music. The new record is raw, there are more guitars and it\u2019s even more upbeat and anthemic than usual. I\u2019ve not had my hands on the wheel through second-thinking myself and guessing what people like. I just wanted to do something that I like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams will release \u2018Britpop\u2019 on October 10. Fans who pre-order the album will receive early access to future UK 2025 live dates<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/robbie-williams-shares-first-ever-official-fifa-anthem-desire-music-and-football-bring-people-together-like-nothing-else-3877629\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Williams was confirmed as the Official FIFA Music Ambassador with the anthem \u2018Desire<\/a>\u2018.
