Robbie Williams<\/a> has shared a stacked playlist of \u2018British Pop\u2019 exclusively for NME, as well as dropping his anthemic single \u2018Spies\u2019 and the tracklist for new album \u2018Britpop\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018Spies\u2019 marks the second single to be lifted from the former Take That<\/a> star turned solo sensation\u2019s 13th album \u2018Britpop\u2019, having launched the record with \u2018Rocket\u2019 featuring Black Sabbath legend Tony Iommi<\/a> back in May.<\/p>\n

Having spoken of how the new record looks back to a \u201cgolden age for British music\u201d in the min-90s, the \u2018Angels\u2019 star has now shared a playlist of his UK influences and favourite stars from across the last 40 years \u2013 featuring the likes of Johnny Marr<\/a> and Bernard Sumner\u2019s Electronic<\/a>, McAlmont And Butler<\/a>, Richard Hawley<\/a> both solo and with Longpigs<\/a>, David Bowie<\/a>, The 1975<\/a>, and past collaborators Pet Shop Boys<\/a>. He\u2019s also included a track by Morrissey<\/a>, who he has written a song about for the new album.<\/p>\n

Today (Friday July 18) also sees the release of anthemic new single \u2018Spies\u2019 \u2013 an anthemic and uplifting guitar-driven song written by Robbie and long-time collaborators Karl Brazil and Owen Parker. In keeping with the album, \u2018Spies\u2019 has an air of nostalgia as Williams looks back on past hedonism: \u201cWe used to stay up all night\/Thinking we were all spies\/Praying that tomorrow won\u2019t come.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI set out to create the album that I wanted to write and release after I left Take That in 1995,\u201d he said of his upcoming record \u2013 which features a classic photo of Williams backstage at Glastonbury 1995 where he famously partied with Oasis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was the peak of Britpop and a golden age for British Music. The new record is raw, there are more guitars and it\u2019s even more upbeat and anthemic than usual. I\u2019m immensely proud of this as a body of work and I\u2019m excited for fans to hear this album.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to NME about his guitar-heavy new sound<\/a> earlier this summer, Williams revealed: \u201cI was playing it safe and I\u2019ve not been driving my own car. I\u2019ve not had my hands on the wheel through second-thinking myself and guessing what people like. I just wanted to do something that I like.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, Williams was confirmed as the Official FIFA Music Ambassador with the anthem \u2018Desire<\/a>\u2018. He invited Italian artist Laura Pausini to feature on the song, and they performed the track together in a pre-match performance at the final of the FIFA Club World Cup in New York earlier this week.<\/p>\n
