That\u2019s the opinion of <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/jamie-murray\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Jamie Murray<\/a>, who believes that Draper is in a much better position, despite exiting <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/wimbledon\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a> a round earlier than <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/emma-raducanu\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Raducanu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Draper went into Wimbledon as the No.4 seed \u2013 the highest-ranked Brit at the Grand Slam since <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/all-about\/andy-murray\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Andy Murray<\/a> in 2017 \u2013 but was <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/tennis\/jack-draper-wimbledon-marin-cilic-35497272\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">knocked out in the second round by Marin Cilic<\/a>. Despite the disappointment, the 23-year-old is ranked fifth in the <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/news\/world-news\/\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">world<\/a> after reaching the US Open semi-finals last year and <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/tennis\/jack-draper-indian-wells-final-34873043\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">winning Indian Wells<\/a> in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Raducanu reached the third round, beating 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova before <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mirror.co.uk\/sport\/tennis\/breaking-emma-raducanu-out-wimbledon-35504947\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">losing to world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka<\/a>. I would say the third round is a good result, all things considered. She had a competitive match with Sabalenka.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cHopefully she goes and has a good summer in America. But it\u2019s not like Jack \u2013 he was number four in the world [at Wimbledon]. He&#8217;s putting results together all the time, he&#8217;s proven that he\u2019s world-class and a top player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Referring to Raducanu\u2019s ranking of No.45 in the world, he added: \u201cThat&#8217;s miles away from being at the level that Jack is at. Of course she had an unbelievable result at the US Open. But she obviously needs to win a lot more matches to be talked about as a contender for these tournaments.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_Emma-Raducanu.jpg\" alt=\"Emma Raducanu \" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Emma Raducanu played well against Aryna Sabalenka but lost in straight sets(Image: Marleen Fouchier\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cBut of course, the hype is obviously massive based on her story of winning the US Open a few years ago. Not to talk bad about Emma, but Jack is in a completely different place in his career than where she is.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Draper arrived at Wimbledon with expectations sky-high following a fantastic period of form, but was bested by 36-year-old veteran Cilic. Murray, a seven-time Grand Slam champion in doubles, is not in the least bit concerned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cJack had a disappointing Wimbledon for him, but it was a tough draw in Cilic when the guy has won Grand Slams, been in finals, loves playing on grass and is a former Queens winner, that\u2019s a tough match for him,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cI&#8217;m sure he&#8217;ll come back stronger next year and in the future years and he&#8217;ll be at the top of the game for 10 years \u2013 he&#8217;ll be one of the guys in that chasing pack trying to get to the level of [Jannik] Sinner and [Carlos] Alcaraz and compete with them on the biggest stage. I&#8217;m excited for Jack and what&#8217;s to come for him. I don&#8217;t think this Wimbledon is going to define how his future career goes in any shape or form.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_GettyImages-2223439287.jpg\" alt=\"Jack Draper of Great Britain gestures against Marin Cilic\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Jack Draper is ranked fifth in the world despite his Wimbledon disappointment(Image: Hannah Peters\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">At 39, Murray is a veteran of British tennis, having won the Davis Cup in 2015, and he also sounded a note of criticism over the system pushing through the next generation of players. Ahead of Wimbledon there were positive stories about there being 23 players in the singles draws \u2013 the most since 1984 \u2013 but Murray thinks that was oversold.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cYou\u2019ve got 23 people in the main draw, but 16 of them are wild cards,\u201d he said. \u201cSo that&#8217;s seven players across the men and women in the main draw. I wouldn&#8217;t say that&#8217;s fantastic at all for a nation that\u2019s got much cash behind it every year. That&#8217;s not great numbers at all, but that&#8217;s where we are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Jamie was speaking to Mirror as part of their record breaking Served at Speed campaign with Lexus.
