\n Sixteen parks and green spaces across the borough have been awarded Green Flag Awards in the latest round of announcements, marking a record achievement for Sandwell.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Green Flag Award is an internationally recognised standard for well-managed parks and open spaces, and West Smethwick Park is the latest addition to Sandwell\u2019s list of winners.\n<\/p>\n
\n Councillor Kerrie Carmichael, leader of Sandwell Council, said: “Over the past two years, Sandwell Council has made significant investment in its parks, play areas, outdoor sports facilities, nature reserves and other green spaces.\n<\/p>\n
\n “This year we applied for the first time for West Smethwick Park, and we are delighted that yet another green space in Sandwell has been recognised to the highest standard.”\n<\/p>\n
\n West Smethwick Park recently underwent a \u00a35.1 million restoration project, funded through the National Lottery’s Parks for People programme and the council.\n<\/p>\n
\n Other award-winning parks in the borough include Brunswick Park in Wednesbury, Barnford Park in Oldbury, Dartmouth Park in West Bromwich, and Haden Hill Park in Cradley Heath.\n<\/p>\n
\n Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd MBE said: “Congratulations to everyone involved in Sandwell who has worked tirelessly to ensure these sites achieve the high standards required for the Green Flag Award.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Quality parks and green spaces like these make the country a healthier place to live and work, and a stronger place in which to invest.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Crucially, these are vital green spaces for communities in Sandwell to enjoy nature.”\n<\/p>\n
\n Sandwell Council has invested \u00a34.3 million this year in 50 projects across 40 parks, following \u00a33.8 million of improvements last year.\n<\/p>\n
