{"id":272465,"date":"2025-07-18T16:22:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T16:22:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/272465\/"},"modified":"2025-07-18T16:22:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T16:22:12","slug":"ben-curry-slams-fans-criticising-his-twins-lions-selection-following-jac-morgan-snub","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/272465\/","title":{"rendered":"Ben Curry slams fans criticising his twin&#8217;s Lions selection following Jac Morgan snub"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tom Curry has been selected to start at openside against the Wallabies in the first Test on Saturday<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_GettyImages-2197102479.jpg\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>Ben Curry and Tom Curry of England (Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Ben Curry has launched a passionate defence of his twin brother Tom after the England flanker was selected ahead of Jac Morgan for the first British and Irish Lions Test \u2014 a decision that means Wales have no representatives in the matchday squad for the first time since 1896.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The omission of Morgan, the only Welsh player on tour, has sparked widespread backlash online, particularly among Welsh supporters, with many questioning Andy Farrell\u2019s decision to favour the 62-cap England star at openside flanker.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Now Ben, currently on international duty with England in Washington, has hit back at what he sees as unjust criticism of his brother \u2014 and questioned whether those voicing it are true Lions fans at all.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cThere\u2019s been a lot of outside criticism which I\u2019m really disappointed about,\u201d <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/rugby-union\/2025\/07\/18\/ben-curry-hits-out-lions-fans-tom-criticism-twin\/\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">said the Sale Sharks captain<\/a>. \u201cYou\u2019d think people would be Lions supporters, but it doesn\u2019t seem so from looking at social media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cSome of it is gobsmacking. Tom can\u2019t say anything about it, obviously, but I think it\u2019s incredibly disappointing. Are you Lions supporters or not? That\u2019s what gets me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Farrell described the decision to leave out Morgan as \u201cas close as you could imagine\u201d, admitting it was one of the toughest calls he faced when naming his side to face Australia in Brisbane on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Morgan has impressed throughout the tour, with many believing he had done enough to earn a Test start. But in opting for Tom Curry alongside Tadhg Beirne and Jack Conan, the Lions boss pointed to the balance his selection offers.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/0_GettyImages-2223294371.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"  \/>Tom Curry of the British &amp; Irish Lions(Image: Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Still, the snub of Morgan \u2014 a player who has captained Wales and performed consistently well \u2014 has left Welsh fans feeling aggrieved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Ben Curry, however, insists his brother is the kind of player every team needs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cTom is a proper glue player and a lot of people won\u2019t understand that,&#8221; he added. &#8220;He\u2019s incredibly selfless, a big-game player. You don\u2019t get that often.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">\u201cIn a rugby team when you look around the circle, look people in the eyes, he\u2019s number one on the list of those you want next to you. If I was in that side I wouldn\u2019t want to play with anyone else.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Tom Curry\u2019s CV is hard to argue with.
