In case there\u2019s any doubt in the wake of Superman, James Gunn<\/strong> confirms that the DC Universe\u2019s take on Clayface<\/strong> is a horror film.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough it\u2019s in the same universe, it\u2019s a complete horror film<\/strong>\u201d Gunn told CBS Mornings.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s not a company style. It\u2019s not like every movie is gonna be like Superman,\u201d he continues. \u201cThe artists and the directors and the writers that create each one will bring their own sense to it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Currently in pre-production, Clayface is expected to shoot later this summer for a September 11, 2026 <\/strong>theatrical release via Warner Bros.<\/p>\n

James Watkins<\/strong> (The Woman in Black, Speak No Evil) will direct from a script by Mike Flanagan<\/strong> (\u201cThe Haunting of Hill House,\u201d Doctor Sleep) and Hossein Amini<\/strong> (Drive, Snow White and the Huntsman).<\/p>\n

It\u2019s described as a Hollywood horror tale centering on a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to remain relevant, only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay.<\/p>\n

Gunn\u2019s DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran<\/strong> previously called Clayface \u201can incredible body horror film that reveals a compelling origin of a classic Batman villain.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tom Rhys Harries<\/strong> (The Gentlemen) is set to star as the titular supervillain, originally created by comics legends Bill Finger <\/strong>and Bob Kane<\/strong> in 1940.<\/p>\n

Before Clayface, the DC Universe continues with \u201cPeacemaker\u201d Season 2 on HBO Max on August 21, followed by \u201cLanterns\u201d on HBO Max in early 2026 and Supergirl in theaters on June 26, 2026.<\/p>\n
