Jeff Lynne has said he is now at home recuperating after cancelling the final shows of his Electric Light Orchestra tour due to illness.<\/p>\n

The 77-year-old musician was forced to withdraw from BST Hyde<\/a> Park on July 13 following advice from doctors, who have been treating him for a \u201csystemic infection\u201d.<\/p>\n

It came just days after Jeff Lynne pulled out of his Manchester gig<\/a> at the newly built Co-Op Live Arena<\/a> after thousands of people had already taken to their seats.<\/p>\n

The headline BST performance in London had been billed as a \u201cfinal goodbye\u201d for the band marking the end of their farewell US tour, Over And Out.<\/p>\n

In a statement shared to social media on Thursday (July 17) Lynne said: \u201cI am now at home recuperating. I was absolutely gutted to have to cancel the final two shows.<\/p>\n

\u201cI send my heartfelt thanks to all of the fans as well as my band and crew for all their support and love.\u201d<\/p>\n

His message<\/a> follows the decision by BST organisers to cancel the entire day\u2019s event at Hyde Park after ELO\u2019s withdrawal. Ticket holders are being refunded and were contacted directly by ticket agents.<\/p>\n

An earlier statement from the festival said Lynne was \u201cheartbroken\u201d to miss the show, and would not be rescheduling as he focuses on recovery.<\/p>\n

It comes after the band \u2013 known for their 1970s hits including Mr Blue Sky, Livin\u2019 Thing and Telephone Line \u2013 pulled out of a performance at Manchester Co-Op Live Arena on July 10.<\/p>\n

Fans took to social media following the last minute cancellation. One person shared: “Tonight’s ELO concert cancelled at 8.10 pm. Jeff Lynne too ill. Devastated. Hope he’s ok. Had tickets since December.”<\/p>\n

“Jeff Lynne\u2019s ELO cancelling 12 MINUTES before they\u2019re due on stage. That\u2019s tragic,” posted another.<\/p>\n

Another ticketholder claimed fans were being told to leave the venue shortly afterwards, writing on social media: “THEY CANCELLED ELO TONIGHT BECAUSE JEFF IS ILL????? YOU CANT MAKE THIS UP WE\u2019RE ALL BEING BOOTED OUT.”<\/p>\n

“Hoping people get compensated for Jeff Lynne ELO tonight,” said another. “There\u2019s being unwell and then there\u2019s cancelling 15 minutes due before coming on. People will have hotels booked, transport. Drinks, merchandise.”<\/p>\n

ELO first formed in Birmingham in 1970 and were known for blending orchestral arrangements with futuristic rock. The group split in 1986 but was revived by Lynne in 2014, leading to a celebrated comeback set at BST Hyde Park that year.<\/p>\n

They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 and have had multiple UK chart-topping albums.<\/p>\n
