{"id":273541,"date":"2025-07-19T02:01:36","date_gmt":"2025-07-19T02:01:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/273541\/"},"modified":"2025-07-19T02:01:36","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T02:01:36","slug":"m4-diversion-route-in-full-as-large-fire-breaks-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/273541\/","title":{"rendered":"M4 diversion route in full as large fire breaks out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are major delays<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/1_1400.png\" alt=\"M4 traffic\" loading=\"eager\"  \/>M4 traffic(Image: National Highways )<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">A diversion route is in place on the M4 due to a vehicle fire this afternoon, Friday, July 18.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Emergency services are currently at the scene of a large fire on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway, between junction 18 and 17.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Fire and Rescue and National Highways crews at at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Drivers travelling eastbound should follow the following diversion:<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Road users should follow the route marked with a solid square symbol on local road signs:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"UnorderedList_unordered-list__gzblI\">\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Exit the M4 eastbound at J18<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">At the junction roundabout take the third exit on to the A46 southbound<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Continue south on the A46 to the Cold Ashton roundabout with the A420<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Take the first exit on to the A420 eastbound<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Remain on the A420 eastbound to Chippenham<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">At the Bumpers Farm Roundabout with the A350 take the first exit<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">Follow the A350 northbound to J17 of the M4<\/li>\n<li class=\"sc-700e1ff3-0 VljCu\">At the junction roundabout take the third exit to re-join the M4 eastbound<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/news\/bristol-news\/live-m4-traffic-stopped-fire-10356947\" target=\"_self\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Follow our live blog here for the latest updates.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">There are currently long tailbacks with drivers facing delays of 30 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">National Highways has closed the M4 as fire crews work to extinguish the fire.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">National Highways added: &#8220;#M4 eastbound J18 (# <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bristolpost.co.uk\/all-about\/bath-and-north-east-somerset\" target=\"\" aria-label=\"\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"noopener\">Bath<\/a> #Stroud #A46) and J17 (#Cirencester #A429 #Chippenham #A350) #Wiltshire<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">&#8220;ROAD CLOSED due to a vehicle fire.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The M4 remains closed and drivers are being told to plan their journeys and allow extra time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Roads and traffic monitoring site Inrix reports there is congestion to half way to Bristol.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It said: &#8220;M4 Eastbound closed, severe delays due to vehicle fire from J18 A46 (Bath \/ Tormarton) to J17 A350 (Chippenham). Congestion to half way to J19 (Bristol).
