{"id":273644,"date":"2025-07-19T02:59:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-19T02:59:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/273644\/"},"modified":"2025-07-19T02:59:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-19T02:59:10","slug":"they-wont-get-anybody-better-toto-wolff-defends-fred-vasseur-after-recent-scrutiny-at-ferrari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/uk\/273644\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018They won\u2019t get anybody better\u2019 \u2013 Toto Wolff defends Fred Vasseur after recent scrutiny at Ferrari"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Toto Wolff has given his backing to Fred Vasseur following recent scrutiny over the Frenchman\u2019s position at Ferrari, with Wolff stating that the squad \u201cwon\u2019t get anybody better\u201d as their team boss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Reports emerged surrounding <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/latest\/tags\/frederic-vasseur.4wyZG5FZb7WpUQHLmSxn5E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vasseur<\/a>\u2019s future at the Scuderia ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix in June, leading the Team Principal to call the speculation <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/latest\/article\/vasseur-responds-to-disrespectful-speculation-over-his-ferrari-future.62L9Zg5nRIbjYH0YlxesJB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cdisrespectful\u201d<\/a> during the weekend in Montreal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\"><a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/drivers\/lewis-hamilton\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lewis Hamilton<\/a> voiced his support for Vasseur in light of the rumours, with the seven-time World Champion arguing that the 57-year-old \u2013 who joined <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/teams\/ferrari\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrari<\/a> ahead of the 2023 season \u2013 is <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/latest\/article\/he-has-my-full-support-hamilton-backs-vasseur-as-the-man-to-lead-ferrari.65vjKMXw8bYdP8i5lZiH7N\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cthe person to take us to the top\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Hamilton\u2019s former boss <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/latest\/tags\/toto-wolff.6h19pcWCI6nlbFZrDG95my\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wolff<\/a> has also backed Vasseur and argued that those in a leadership position of an F1 outfit need to be given time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cIt seems to be a bit of a revolving door with teams generally,\u201d Wolff reflected when asked about the importance of long-term stability at the top of a team. \u201cI think in F1, you can\u2019t buy time, and you need to give senior leadership the time to get on top of things.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cToday we talked about Jean Todt. Jean Todt, if I\u2019m not wrong, joined the [Ferrari] team in 1993 and they won the first championship in 2000. \u201893, \u201894, \u201895, \u201896, \u201897, \u201898, \u201899, 2000. Eight years. That\u2019s how it goes, and it comes at cycles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cLook at us. I\u2019m not enjoying being in a phase that it\u2019s the third year in a row that we are not fighting for a championship. We\u2019re not useless. We have really good weekends. We\u2019re winning races. It\u2019s respectable at times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cAnd when it\u2019s not good, nobody\u2019s questioning in a way whether the top guy is doing a good job or not. Leave him the space. Let him do [things]. They need to just let them do [things].\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Wolff went on to hail Vasseur\u2019s characteristics and management skills, as well as acknowledging the pressure that the Ferrari boss faces from the team\u2019s passionate fanbase.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cFred is one of the best racing managers that I know,\u201d said Wolff. \u201cIf I wasn\u2019t here, I would take Fred. So, I respect him a lot. He\u2019s a great personality. He\u2019s a straightforward guy. He doesn\u2019t do politics and lies. He knows what he\u2019s talking about.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cHe just needs to be given the trust to run this. He\u2019s perfectly aware that in Italy, it\u2019s like managing the football national team. You\u2019re going to have the scrutiny from the media.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cMaybe that\u2019s something you need to grow a little bit of a thick skin, because if he wins, he is Jesus Christ, and if you lose, you\u2019re a loser. That\u2019s how Italy is. That\u2019s fantastic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cThat\u2019s the passion that is in there. You\u2019ve got to embrace that. Maybe that\u2019s something he needs to learn. But the rest, he should be given the confidence in running this team.
