LIFE will be performed at the Scottish Storytelling Centre for a short run during this year\u2019s Fringe. <\/p>\n
Written and performed by Edinburgh-based actor and writer Maria MacDonell the play is set in a real time drawing class. Maria herself posed as an artist\u2019s model in her 60s. She explores the way that older women\u2019s bodies are viewed.<\/p>\n
Maria said: \u201cMy mind wanders when I am sitting for a class, being looked at so intently. I wonder what would happen if I was naughty. I wonder about the tutor and students. Why have we all come together now and by being here, concentrating together, will we make something momentous happen? It feels a lot like theatre.\u201d<\/p>\n
The audience have to participate, drawing with paper and pencils as the show progresses. There are also four on-stage tickets for people who would like to sit at easels there.<\/p>\n
In the play we meet Estelle who is the artist\u2019s model. She has never sat for a session quite like this however despite her long experience. She cannot stand sitting still any longer. How will this one class change her LIFE forever?<\/p>\n
The play has been on tour in Scotland and is the third offering from MacDonell after her 2021\/22 show Miss Lindsay Secret which still tours the UK and The Not So Ugly Duckling co-written with award-winning playwright Jo Clifford.<\/p>\n
