Sheffield Wednesday remain in turmoil as the new season approaches, with Josh Windass and Michael Smith both having their contracts terminated by mutual consent and serious questions over whether Danny Rohl will remain at Hillsborough.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The South Yorkshire<\/a> club has been hit with a triple transfer embargo after failing to pay players’ wages on time for multiple months. Two of the six players<\/a> to hand in their notices – Windass and Smith – did so after wages went unpaid for May and June – with the PFA describing<\/a> the situation as “not tolerable.”<\/p>\n

The financial turmoil has been worsened by owner Dejphon Chansiri’s struggles to sell the club, with potential buyers reportedly<\/a> put off by his demands for a \u00a35m deposit just to begin takeover discussions, as per journalist Alan Nixon.<\/p>\n

Rohl himself has been strongly linked with moves away from Hillsborough<\/a> throughout the summer, with clubs including Leicester City and Southampton previously showing reported<\/a> interest – though both newly-relegated sides now have different managers.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old told<\/a> German media in May that his “situation in Sheffield is unofficially relatively clear.”<\/p>\n\n

Lee Hendrie’s verdict on Sheffield Wednesday’s current situation<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to FLW<\/strong> about the Danny Rohl situation, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie delivered a damning verdict on the Owl’s<\/a> current state.<\/p>\n

“I think this Danny Rohl situation, it just sums up where Sheffield Wednesday are at as a football club on a whole,” Hendrie told FLW<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

“You look at the players that haven\u2019t obviously been getting paid, players that don\u2019t want to play under Dannyt Rohl, the chairman, the stalling on what’s going on behind the scenes at the football club, and yet we\u2019re what – a couple weeks away from the season starting.<\/p>\n

The former Aston Villa midfielder didn’t hold back in his criticism of the club’s handling of the crisis, putting emphasis on the urgency of the situation with pre-season well underway.<\/p>\n

“I just think it needs to be resolved very quickly, I think it needs to be made a decision and I think the reason why it hasn\u2019t been made is because of what’s going on behind the scenes in who\u2019s going to be coming in and taking on the football club,” Hendrie continued.<\/p>\n

Hendrie’s comments paint a picture of a club in complete disarray, with multiple issues creating an unsustainable situation. The pundit was particularly scathing about the timing of the ongoing uncertainty.<\/p>\n

“But yeah, this needs to be resolved for Sheffield Wednesday because it\u2019s all looking very much of a shambles at the moment, the quicker it\u2019s resolved the better because as I said the season is just around the corner,” he stated.<\/p>\n

The criticism comes amid reports<\/a> that Rohl returned to Sheffield Wednesday earlier this week after missing the start of pre-season training, only to find several players apparently<\/a> unhappy with his return.<\/p>\n

The German manager had been widely expected to leave the club during the summer, with Henrik Pedersen – the Owls’ assistant head coach – signing a new contract<\/a> as his potential replacement.<\/p>\n

Joe Crann<\/a>, Wednesday journalist at Sheffield Star, reported<\/a> that despite Rohl’s return, there is still no “definitive decision” on how things will move forward, and predicts more drama to follow suit.<\/p>\n

As Sheffield Wednesday<\/a> prepare for their second-tier opener against Leicester City on August 10th<\/a>, Hendrie’s call for immediate resolution appears increasingly urgent – with the clubs’ pre-season preparations hampered by both the manager’s future and finances.<\/p>\n
