Govia Thameslink has announced that the rail company is reinstating its trains between London Bridge and <strong>Lewes<\/strong> in East Sussex, having discontinued the service during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The service will improve the capital\u2019s connections to Lewes, which currently only has direct London trains to Clapham Junction. Govia Thameslink\u2019s revived service will launch in December, operate once per day, and it\u2019ll finish up beyond Lewes\u00a0at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/news\/the-classic-english-beach-resort-town-getting-a-new-direct-train-service-from-london-071625\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">classic English seaside resort town Eastbourne<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>So, who reckons Lewes is one of the best trips from London? Well, that\u2019d be us. Lewes features in Time Out\u2019s lists of both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/travel\/the-best-day-trips-from-london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">best day trips from London<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/london\/things-to-do\/six-dazzling-day-trips-within-an-hour-from-london\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">top places to visit within an hour of the capital<\/a>, best known for its Bonfire Night celebrations, medieval Keep and rich brewing history.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re specifically planning a day trip to Lewes using Govia Thameslink\u2019s new service, well, we have\u00a0less-good news. The new service\u00a0is very much intended for commuters, running Monday to Thursday. It leaves Lewes for London in the mornings and returns in the evenings, so unless you\u2019re retired or it\u2019s the school holidays, the timings aren\u2019t particularly conducive to a day trip.<\/p>\n<p>Still, there\u2019s nothing stopping you heading to Lewes after work one evening, spending a couple of nights and getting a full day in the town.
