Brits heading to Spain for their summer holidays are being ruled about new “rules” which could see them fined when arriving at the passport gates.<\/p>\n

It has been reported that visitors to Spain must show proof of travel insurance before being allowed to enter.<\/p>\n

While having travel insurance sorted before holidays is always sensible, many people don’t bother and decide to risk it, not wanting the added expense.<\/p>\n

But it’s suggested Spanish authorities could now dish out fines of up to \u00a35,900 for those who have not come prepared – while holidaymakers may even be turned away in some cases.<\/p>\n

While it’s unclear if these rules would always be enforced, Brits leaving without insurance do so at their own risk as part of a crackdown in Spain.<\/p>\n

The tough rules are reportedly being brought in to protect the Spanish healthcare system.<\/p>\n

Alicia Hempsted, travel insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket, said: “\u201cThe nature of this announcement ahead of the core summer holiday period will undoubtedly leave some parents feeling anxious.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile we would always advocate for booking travel insurance as soon as your holiday has been booked to offer the most protection to customers, you can often secure travel insurance up until the day of departure.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to MoneySuperMarket, the average cost of a single-trip family travel insurance policy to Spain is \u00a325.40 in 2025.<\/p>\n

Alicia added: “Once you have secured the appropriate policy for your holiday, it is vital that you keep a record of this with you when you travel.<\/p>\n

“Printing these documents in advance will save any headaches if you encounter technical issues with your emails or insurance app too.<\/p>\n
